previous 10/10 next 2/10  IYI 0 - 2 Madrid (394041279)

A brilliantly sunny day had enticed a crowd of 3783 to Khan Asparuh. Siniša Gilić was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Egor Braginskiy and Raul Deaconescu. IYI tactics involved an interesting 5-2-3 combination. The following players took the field: Zaśko - Yoshkov, Škofič, Biggin, Pinto, Beliczyński - Ruto, Göktürk - Rizov, Arangelov, Iliev.

Madrid decided to use a 5-3-2 set up. Starters: Boroi - Noboa, Läfvenander, Amenabar, Ruiz, Bădoiu - Redondo, Varsano, Kieser - Pasiego, Heurtevent.

IYI were determined to use their long shot ability. For their match strategy, Madrid had decided to use their ability to counter-attack whenever possible. 27 minutes into the game, S. Heurtevent had a great chance to put his team ahead, but his kick from the left went wide. IYI had no available replacements when I. Biggin had to leave the game after 41 minutes because of a pulled tendon, leaving the team a man short. E. Pinto of IYI received a yellow card after 43 minutes for unsportsmanlike behaviour. The sun seemed to put L. Rizov in a great mood, and he showed off his technical skills all match long. After 44 minutes, Madrid put themselves up 0 - 1, as H. Kieser finished off a strike from the left with a real cannonball of a shot. A. Varsano of Madrid was booked for kicking the ball away after the whistle. Had it not been for one of the home defenders, S. Ruiz would have put Madrid up another goal 44 minutes into the match with his audacious lob from the right wing. The referee showed Madrid's H. Kieser the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. G. Ruto couldn't finish the match after being injured, leaving IYI a man down. The IYI captaincy was handed to S. Zaśko. The teams went for the halftime break at 0 - 1. Madrid claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 67 percent.

After the ball was lifted in from the left, M. Pasiego was on his own in the home side's penalty area and should have scored after 65 minutes, but missed, probably due to lack of concentration. After 75 minutes, M. Amenabar sent the corner kick right to A. Varsano who headed it sharply past the keeper. 0 - 2! With the scoreboard showing that 77 minutes had been played, Madrid nearly put themselves up another goal after S. Heurtevent came through on the left. Fortunately for the home crowd, the keeper made the save. Possession in this half belonged to Madrid, who controlled the ball 67 percent of the time.

IYI's best player was P. Yoshkov. M. Göktürk on the other hand, had a terrible day. The most dominating Madrid player was without a doubt V. Redondo. D. Boroi was a disappointment, however. The match ends 0 - 2.
