It was an exceptionally sunny day for the crowd of 1113 that came out to
SCHUMI CHAMPIONS ARENA.
Niko Aikio was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Tó Andrade and
Tomás Gaspart.
SCHUMI decided to use a 5-3-2 set up.
The following players took the field: Camisasca - Akli, Weyler, Moutaraji, Taverniers, Lucas - Penha, Stürzer, Lethé - Bendele, Dirick.
sporting started off with a 4-4-2 lineup.
They fielded: Tsykin - Grubbe, Vanuxem, Faure, De Noble - Dème, Moernaut, Degand, Hardiquest - Faure, Cleverberg.
After 5 minutes SCHUMI tried to exploit their counterattacking skills, unfortunately,
F. Stürzer's shot sailed wide after his break down the right.
A scuffle developed as players from both sides clashed following a tussle in the centre of the field 6 minutes into the match. After regaining order and consulting his linesman, the referee called SCHUMI's
B. Akli to one side and produced a red card for the player.
SCHUMI's
I. Moutaraji was shown a yellow card after 29 minutes for slicing down an opponent.
R. Lethé behaved like an inexperienced youth player after 30 minutes as he gave the ball away to
P. Moernaut. Lucky for him though, there was no goal.
It was 0 - 0 at the break.
Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by sporting, with 86 percent of the ball.
Some good play on the left wing created an opportunity for the visitors 62 minutes into the match, and
J. Faure wasn't about to let it go by. He got past the defenders and fired a shot that the keeper just missed. 0 - 1 for the visitors.
R. Cleverberg of sporting took advantage of a mistake on the home side's right after 66 minutes which increased the away team's lead to 0 - 2.
By now, the players in sporting felt that victory was guaranteed and began to play it safe, focusing on defence and not risking too much going forward.
SCHUMI's
K. Lucas had to watch the rest of the game from the sidelines, after twisting his ankle with 73 minutes having been played.
M. Ohnsorg was the replacement.
77 minutes into the match, the visitors put themselves ahead 0 - 3 as
J. Grubbe finished off an attack from the left with a spectacular scissors kick.
In a rapid move 79 minutes into the match,
R. Cleverberg of sporting lost his man and passed the ball to the unmarked
J. Faure who easily hit it home to make it 0 - 4. Luckily the ref didn't see him taunting the opposing fans in celebration - naughty boy!
Possession in this half belonged to sporting, who controlled the ball 88 percent of the time.
Most important SCHUMI player was
I. Moutaraji.
F. Stürzer turned in a dismal performance, however.
sporting's best player was
G. Degand.
R. Hardiquest on the other hand, had a terrible day.
