21-08-2012 19.15
Clouds darkened the skies at
Petoria Arena as 2264 spectators turned up for the match.
Lutz Knoop was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Rãzvan Andronic and
Joey Grassere.
PFC tactics involved an interesting 2-5-3 combination.
The following players had been chosen: Frappampina - Pettinari, Dorli' - Reissig, Cirone, Battaglino, Abisso, Bernocchi - Simonet, Kolendo, Grelloni.
Afterburners decided to use a 3-4-3 set up.
Starters: Zehetmeyer - Kivioja, Aikanen, Purtilo - Kiiveri, Talv, Lakio, Fatseas - Killinen, Pikkala, Muotkajärvi.
Today, Afterburners's strategy involved concentrating on the flanks for their attacks.
PFC could have put themselves ahead after 9 minutes but
G. Bernocchi missed a volley shot on a ball coming in from the right.
With 15 minutes played, the home side managed to get a 1 - 0 lead as
V. Battaglino flipped the ball in after a cross from the right.
C. Grelloni of PFC received a yellow card after 18 minutes for unsportsmanlike behaviour.
20 minutes into the match, the visitors' central line of defence had to look on as
G. Pettinari broke through, making the score 2 - 0 for PFC.
PFC managed to extend their lead to 3 - 0 when
G. Abisso cut in neatly from the left side and struck a fine shot past the away team's goalkeeper.
PFC solidified their lead at the 27 minute mark, as
V. Cirone dribbled the ball through the opposing central defence and scored to make it 4 - 0.
At this point, it was obvious that the players of PFC lowered the tempo and became more defensively oriented.
Cheers filled the stadium as
G. Abisso broke through the visitors' central defence to put away the ball to increase the lead to 5 - 0 to PFC.
The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave
M. Lakio from Afterburners a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 30 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient!
C. Grelloni of PFC had to be helped off the pitch as an injury meant he was unable to finish the game.
M. Gilioli came in to finish the match.
5 - 0 was the halftime score.
Possession in this half belonged to PFC, who controlled the ball 71 percent of the time.
After 55 minutes,
G. Abisso put PFC ahead 6 - 0 when he rose to head in a cross from the right wing.
That was his third goal of the match - a hat trick for
G. Abisso.
R. Simonet unleashed a swerving effort from the right that the visitors' keeper did well to tip wide.
G. Dorli' had a fantastic opportunity to put PFC up another goal 72 minutes into the match, but he fired just over the crossbar.
A weary-looking
J. Aikanen struggled to keep pace with the advancing attack, but he just didn't have the energy and let PFC's
R. Simonet through to score, making it 7 - 0.
PFC increased the lead as
G. Pettinari struck to make the score 8 - 0 after an attack from the left left him unmarked in front of the keeper.
Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by PFC, with 74 percent of the ball.
PFC's best player was
V. Battaglino.
G. Pettinari on the other hand, had a terrible day.
The most dominating Afterburners player was without a doubt
A. Zehetmeyer.
J. Aikanen turned in a dismal performance, however.
The match ends 8 - 0.
