Clear skies welcomed the 1504 spectators who had made their way to
Fabricio Ybarra - "La Fortaleza".
Jalmari Taalikka was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
David Hewison and
Roelof de Kok.
Branca decided to use a 4-5-1 set up.
Starters: Angel - Burela, Mirad, Mutovkin, Petetta - Cinkl, Shevchenko, Molina, Veiga, Wesołowski - Folegani.
Vicenza had chosen a strategic 2-5-3 formation.
The following players took the field: Ochojski - Niehold, Ballner - Wennby, Niemann, Rhodius, Villaescusa, Tuokkola - Sobisch, Canosa, Covellone.
Branca's
A. Veiga tried to break through in the middle repeatedly, but couldn't get past the visitors' defenders.
The visiting
F. Wennby was booed thoroughly by the home crowd 9 minutes into the game, after he broke through the middle and scored, resulting in the visitors taking the lead. 0 - 1 was the score.
23 minutes into the game, Vicenza were awarded a penalty and
C. Ballner was able to increase the visitors' lead to 0 - 2 rolling the ball in by the right post.
After 24 minutes Vicenza's
S. Covellone contracted a slight foot injury, but didn't want to leave the game.
Vicenza came close to extending their lead as
D. Rhodius delivered a low effort on goal from the right after 30 minutes, but the angle was too narrow and the shot went harmlessly into the side netting.
Always a threat,
B. Wesołowski tore past his marker and placed the ball right at the feet of the waiting
M. Folegani who should have easily scored for Branca, but the ball went wide.
Vicenza increased the lead to 0 - 3 as
C. Ballner scored from the penalty spot, putting the ball in near the top left corner.
At this point, it was obvious that the players of Vicenza lowered the tempo and became more defensively oriented.
J. Molina behaved like an inexperienced youth player after 35 minutes as he gave the ball away to
Y. Niemann. Lucky for him though, there was no goal.
With 37 minutes played, the excellent ball from the wing by Vicenza's
J. Tuokkola reached
S. Covellone's head, and he is not one to miss such an opportunity - 0 - 4.
After 38 minutes,
T. Mirad had a good opportunity to reduce the scoreline for Branca with a chance created through the middle, but wasn't cool enough. The ball went miles over the bar.
Halftime score was 0 - 4.
Vicenza had most of the ball, with 58 percent of possession.
A penalty was awarded after 68 minutes, and
C. Ballner made the most of his chance to put Vicenza up by another goal. 0 - 5 for the visitors.
This third goal completed a hattrick for
C. Ballner.
Had it not been for one of the home defenders,
A. Canosa would have put Vicenza up another goal 70 minutes into the match with his audacious lob from the right wing.
After 83 minutes a combination in the middle resulted in a through ball for
D. Rhodius who increased Vicenza's lead to 0 - 6.
Vicenza enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 57 percent of possession.
Branca's best player was
A. Veiga.
A. Mutovkin turned in a dismal performance, however.
Vicenza's top performer was clearly
Y. Niemann.
On the other hand,
P. Ochojski's play was disheartening.
The match ends 0 - 6.
