Clouds darkened the skies at
Stadio Martijn Meazza as 1219 spectators turned up for the match.
Riley Finn was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Casimiro Parmeggiani and
Leonid Kudashov.
Interim started off with a 5-3-2 lineup.
Starters: Farci - van Aemstel, Mont, Hutten, van Etten, Breij - Brito, Frencken, Soca - Rosteeren, von Aschersleben.
Appel tactics involved an interesting 3-5-2 combination.
Lineup: Lettinga - Gryga, Quade, van Limburg - Espínola, Lauwers, Schwark, Korn, Bastin - Buijk, Drion.
Using their counter-attacking abilities was the strategy of choice for Interim.
After 11 minutes, Appel raised their score by one when
N. Espínola's dangerous low cross was cleverly tucked in at the near post by
E. Drion. 0 - 1.
A tussle 15 minutes into the match resulted in a penalty being awarded to the home team and
T. von Aschersleben put the ball into the back of the net without any difficulty. That tied the score up at 1 - 1.
They were singing the praises of
J. Rosteeren 19 minutes into the match after his speculative chip from the middle of the penalty box found its way over the visitors' keeper to make the score 2 - 1 to Interim.
E. Drion's fine footwork caused nothing but headaches for
H. Mont. The keeper wasn't fooled however, and confidently scooped up the ball.
O. Breij had a fantastic opportunity to put Interim up another goal 39 minutes into the match, but he fired just over the crossbar.
It was 2 - 1 at the break.
Interim had most of the ball, with 54 percent of possession.
As the match clock hit 46 minutes, Interim regrouped to try and keep their initiative in the game.
O. Breij high-fived
H. Mont as they swapped positions on the team.
While defending the Interim lead,
C. Soca got a new role. 46 minutes in the game, his coach ordered him to change positions with
D. Hutten.
After 46 minutes, Interim felt secure enough to make a tactical change.
I. van Aemstel and
V. van Etten assumed each others positions on the field.
After 66 minutes, Appel's
E. Drion fell awkwardly, but was determined to stay in the match. That's the spirit!
Interim increased the lead as
A. Brito struck to make the score 3 - 1 after an attack from the left left him unmarked in front of the keeper.
The coach of Interim was happy with the game so far, but still wanted to change the line up. After 73 minutes,
A. Caveng came on for
I. Frencken.
As the captain was no longer on the pitch,
J. Rosteeren took over the role of being the Interim captain.
A magnificent combination in the middle resulted in Interim's
O. Breij increasing the lead to 4 - 1.
Interim were given a gift! The ref dubiously awarded them a penalty 81 minutes into the match, which was neatly put away by
T. von Aschersleben. 5 - 1 for the home side.
By now, the players in Interim felt that victory was guaranteed and began to play it safe, focusing on defence and not risking too much going forward.
J. Rosteeren should probably have put his team up another goal after 84 minutes, but some great goalkeeping by
W. Lettinga kept the visitors in the game.
Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Interim, with 55 percent of the ball.
Interim's best player was
A. Caveng.
On the other hand,
I. van Aemstel's play was disheartening.
E. Drion performed admirably for Appel.
W. Lettinga turned in a dismal performance, however.
The match ends 5 - 1.
