Overcast weather free of rain made for a crowd turnout of 680 at
Real Cusano Dome today.
Bill Apelkvist was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Jan Danielski and
Emil Leitgeb.
Cusano decided to use a 3-4-3 set up.
They fielded: Scattone - Lourenço, Monnot, Miesiołek - Gandino, Penezić, Bleve, Gschwandtner - La Ratta, Unteregger, Stasi.
Weast started off with a 2-5-3 lineup.
Starters: Oldenburger - Macedo, Bento - Sonnino, Leim, Pasqualini, Ilie, Denti - Karam, Caraclî, Giermasiński.
It was an obvious ambition of Weast to use their ability at attacking on the flanks.
Weast had a good opportunity to attack in the middle, but remembered their instructions to focus on wing attacks instead.
7 minutes into the game,
D. Macedo was a hair's breadth away from giving Weast the lead with a shot from over on the left. A prompt block by
M. Scattone saved the home team that time.
Weast's
S. Karam left the field after 14 minutes because of a nasty blow to the shin. His replacement was
K. Kenis.
Given a free kick close to the byline, Cusano tried a move that loyal fans may recognise from training. A pass to the side pulled the defence out of position which let
S. Bleve slip through on goal. He didn't have to break his stride, and slipped the ball past the keeper to make it 1 - 0, 17 minutes into the game.
Cusano's
J. Lourenço was shown a yellow card after 27 minutes for slicing down an opponent.
Cusano managed to extend their lead to 2 - 0 when
A. La Ratta cut in neatly from the left side and struck a fine shot past the away team's goalkeeper.
Weast were determined to attack on the wing and their central attempts were constantly abandoned in favour of the wings.
The away team improved the scoreline to 2 - 1, as
K. Kenis struck home, set up well by a play on the left 37 minutes into the match.
Given a free kick in a difficult position after 38 minutes, Cusano tried a variation that they had practised in training. The kick was sent into the area just in front of the keeper. However, the defence were on their toes and allowed no space for a finish.
Cusano put themselves up 3 - 1 when
F. Unteregger broke through on the right, leaving the entire defence trailing in his wake.
Confident in their lead, Cusano's players relaxed and focused more on defending the lead than increasing it.
Halftime score was 3 - 1.
Cusano claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 59 percent.
47 minutes into the match, the visitors' central line of defence had to look on as
J. Miesiołek broke through, making the score 4 - 1 for Cusano.
Weast certainly deserved a goal after some stunning play down the left, but
D. Macedo just wasn't able to finish.
A spectacular volley from
A. La Ratta almost resulted in a goal, but a good save from the keeper kept it out, and
C. Stasi could only knock the loose ball wide.
C. Stasi should probably have put his team up another goal after 72 minutes, but some great goalkeeping by
A. Oldenburger kept the visitors in the game.
The visitors got one back when
K. Kenis finished off a pass from the left and scored after 82 minutes. 4 - 2 was the score.
The Cusano players could smell victory in the air.
A. Penezić wasn't in a hurry to leave the field as he was substituted for
A. Inversi after 83 minutes.
Weast's
F. Pasqualini got himself booked for a foul.
Unfortunately for Cusano,
J. Lourenço was injured when the game became more physical, and he had to leave the field.
N. Miroli replaced him.
Cusano increased the lead as
F. Unteregger struck to make the score 5 - 2 after an attack from the left left him unmarked in front of the keeper.
One of many good crosses from
L. Sonnino on the wing was received and skillfully taken care of by
E. Caraclî, who scored for Weast. 5 - 3
Cusano solidified their lead at the 87 minute mark, as
J. Miesiołek dribbled the ball through the opposing central defence and scored to make it 6 - 3.
Cusano had most of the ball, with 66 percent of possession.
A. Inversi performed admirably for Cusano.
On the other hand,
J. Miesiołek's play was disheartening.
Most important Weast player was
G. Giermasiński.
A. Oldenburger turned in a dismal performance, however.
The match ends 6 - 3.
