Clear skies welcomed the 2903 spectators who had made their way to
Simón Bolívar.
Xavier Fonseca was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Karp Syvorotkin and
Andrea Genovese.
A 3-4-3 alignment was the formation of choice for Bolívar.
Starters: Chacón - Rais, Tatton, Melnichenko - Siksnys, 近藤 (Kondo), Arsić, La Pierre - Espíndola, Piedade, Mihajlović.
Football tactics involved an interesting 2-5-3 combination.
They fielded: Levrel - Villapún, Grzegolec - Herghelegiu, Larraquy, Kremer, Punesch, Vella - Souche, Papon, Errege.
Bolívar seemed to prefer attacking in the middle.
Football's
C. Souche gave the visitors a 0 - 1 lead after 25 minutes with a superb strike from the right.
Football's
C. Souche left the field after 26 minutes because of a nasty blow to the shin. His replacement was
J. Migeon.
D. Herghelegiu received a delicate pass through the home side's central defence after 27 minutes, and chipped it past the flailing keeper to score making it 0 - 2. The Football fans went wild, whilst the home fans started to think about leaving early.
42 minutes into the game, Football seemed to suffer a certain amount of confusion and they fell to a
passable level of organisation.
43 minutes into the match, the visitors put themselves ahead 0 - 3 as
S. Vella finished off an attack from the left with a spectacular scissors kick.
At this point, it was obvious that the players of Football lowered the tempo and became more defensively oriented.
J. Errege came close to extending the visitors' lead when he found himself completely unmarked in front of the goal after a pass through the middle. He tried to lift the ball over
P. Chacón but overcooked it and hit the bar instead.
A defender managed to keep the ball from crossing the goal-line after a curling shot coming in from the right from
J. Migeon after 44 minutes, and prevented Football from going up another goal.
With 44 minutes played,
O. Melnichenko of Bolívar fell dramatically just outside the penalty area. However, the referee was unimpressed, and booked him for diving.
0 - 3 was the halftime score.
Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Football, with 63 percent of the ball.
The Football players spent the break getting a rerun of the team's tactical organisation and regained a
solid organisation when the game started again.
60 minutes into the game, Football seemed a little tentative in their play as their organization fell to
solid.
S. Vella managed to make an excellent pass from the flank, but
D. Papon was not as skillfull in scoring.
74 minutes into the game, Football had difficulty finding their positions and their organisation dropped to
inadequate.
J. Grzegolec rose like a salmon, and was very close to scoring with a header after a corner, but sent the ball just over the bar.
With 83 minutes played,
J. Errege nearly put the visitors another one up as he broke through in the middle and fired from just outside the box, but his shot passed just over the bar.
84 minutes into the game,
O. Melnichenko had to leave the pitch due to a knee injury. In came
G. Skidan.
Possession in this half belonged to Football, who controlled the ball 60 percent of the time.
Bolívar's top performer was clearly
V. Mihajlović.
However,
G. Skidan made a disastrous appearance.
M. Punesch performed admirably for Football.
J. Migeon on the other hand, had a terrible day.
The match ends 0 - 3.
