Clouds darkened the skies at
ARAGON Arena as 1550 spectators turned up for the match.
Pierpaolo Brancato was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Albano Nieto and
Jeremy René Trohorsch.
ARAGON started off with a 5-5-0 lineup.
Starters: Tali - Predojević, Carpentier, Spriet, Oliveira Rocha, Nipoti - Shayunov, Golovinskiy, Testoedov, Dubnikov, Gulyakin -.
Forever decided to use a 3-5-2 set up.
The following players took the field: Ural - Rahbek, Roslund, Garaycoa - Block, van Ulft, Van Dingenen, Urea, Gunning - Jelle, Giehse.
ARAGON were relying on their ability to counter-attack.
S. Garaycoa gave the visitors the lead 2 minutes into the match to make it 0 - 1. The goal was scored from the penalty spot after a handball in the penalty area.
The home keeper was stunned 10 minutes into the match when he misjudged the free kick by
S. Garaycoa and dived in the wrong direction. The visitors increased the lead to 0 - 2.
After this, you could see that the players of Forever were more interested in killing time than scoring more goals.
After several obvious shirt pulling incidents,
S. Urea got himself booked. The manager of Forever was not happy.
ARAGON's
J. Oliveira Rocha was shown a yellow card after 40 minutes for slicing down an opponent.
Forever came close to extending their lead as
K. Giehse delivered a low effort on goal from the right after 41 minutes, but the angle was too narrow and the shot went harmlessly into the side netting.
K. Giehse came close to extending the visitors' lead when he found himself completely unmarked in front of the goal after a pass through the middle. He tried to lift the ball over
A. Tali but overcooked it and hit the bar instead.
After 43 minutes, the defensive line of ARAGON created a counterattack through the middle that gave
S. Spriet a good look at the goal, but his shot glanced harmlessly off the crossbar.
The teams went for the halftime break at 0 - 2.
Possession in this half belonged to Forever, who controlled the ball 65 percent of the time.
T. Ural wanted to play on, but the Forever coach had other ideas, and he was replaced 46 minutes into the game by
J. Bramsen.
The visitors added to their lead 50 minutes into the game, after a sensational penalty kick by Forever's
S. Garaycoa slid just past the home keeper. 0 - 3.
That made three goals for
S. Garaycoa and he was marked down for the hat trick.
Although the whole team were struggling to impress, ARAGON's
N. Testoedov was singled out as being the problem as he was called off the pitch after 60 minutes.
P. Četnik was given a chance to change things around.
After 75 minutes, ARAGON switched
V. Dubnikov with
E. Chiariti, hoping for a quick impact on the pitch.
Forever's
S. Garaycoa got himself booked for a foul.
A loud groan was heard from the fans of ARAGON, as
M. Shayunov left the pitch in too much pain to finish the match.
C. Eberherr took his place on the field.
The ARAGON captaincy was handed to
P. Četnik.
With the scoreboard showing that 81 minutes had been played, Forever nearly put themselves up another goal after
B. Van Dingenen came through on the left. Fortunately for the home crowd, the keeper made the save.
ARAGON were able to mount several counterattacks, such as the impressive one after 82 minutes, but
G. Nipoti lofted a free kick over the crossbar.
ARAGON had no available replacements when
J. Oliveira Rocha had to leave the game after 84 minutes because of a pulled tendon, leaving the team a man short.
ARAGON's
R. Carpentier managed a superb strike from the left after 85 minutes that would have left goalkeeper
J. Bramsen without a chance, had it not hit the post.
With 87 minutes played,
D. Gulyakin of ARAGON fell dramatically just outside the penalty area. However, the referee was unimpressed, and booked him for diving.
87 minutes into the match, the visitors put themselves ahead 0 - 4 as
V. Jelle finished off an attack from the left with a spectacular scissors kick.
88 minutes in, Forever's
K. Roslund received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first.
G. Block of Forever took advantage of a mistake on the home side's right after 89 minutes which increased the away team's lead to 0 - 5.
Forever claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 66 percent.
The most dominating ARAGON player was without a doubt
C. Eberherr.
L. Golovinskiy was a disappointment, however.
Forever's best player was
B. Van Dingenen.
On the other hand,
M. Rahbek's play was disheartening.
