1323 spectators had found their way to
Lagunão, despite the heavy rain.
Ricardo Astorga was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Ayasha Abu-Jaber and
Remo Senseig.
LAGUNA started off with a 4-4-2 lineup.
The following players had been chosen: Sander - Zinsmeister, Di Massimo, Ziza, Torrus - Justicia, Gontojo, Pujol, Moreno - Gaborit, Biscaya.
Nacional decided to use a 4-3-3 set up.
Lineup: Manzo - Aragão, Zečević, Altafini, Donnet - Šestić, Fernandes, Drummond - Potiguar, Karydakis, Cantareira.
Nacional saw most attack opportunities on the wings.
G. Zinsmeister of LAGUNA received a yellow card after 15 minutes for unsportsmanlike behaviour.
16 minutes had elapsed when a great chance for LAGUNA to take the lead after a good cross from the right found
S. Moreno alone with the keeper, but he chipped it to the wrong side of the post.
After 17 minutes, the defensive line of Nacional created a counterattack through the middle that gave
A. Drummond a good look at the goal, but his shot glanced harmlessly off the crossbar.
They were singing the praises of
J. Justicia 21 minutes into the match after his speculative chip from the middle of the penalty box found its way over the visitors' keeper to make the score 1 - 0 to LAGUNA.
The crowd gasped as
A. Drummond of Nacional was flattened by an opponent after 22 minutes and had to be carried off.
G. van der Hoff came in off the bench.
With 25 minutes played, seemingly due to lack of experience,
G. Zinsmeister needlessly tripped an opponent just outside the penalty area, but the free kick that followed didn't succeed.
30 minutes in, Nacional appeared unsure on how to play and their organisation was only
inadequate.
After 30 minutes,
J. Gontojo put LAGUNA ahead 2 - 0 when he rose to head in a cross from the right wing.
Halftime score was 2 - 0.
LAGUNA enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 56 percent of possession.
During the break, Nacional's coach went through the team's tactics yet again, getting them up to
solid organisation.
LAGUNA solidified their lead at the 48 minute mark, as
J. Justicia dribbled the ball through the opposing central defence and scored to make it 3 - 0.
49 minutes into the game, Nacional seemed to suffer a certain amount of confusion and they fell to a
inadequate level of organisation.
G. Zinsmeister had a hard time on the waterlogged pitch - his trademark technique was nowhere in sight today.
A speedy charge from the left side of the field increased the lead of LAGUNA to 4 - 0 as
P. Ziza finished it off competently, firing in from an acute angle.
By now, the players in LAGUNA felt that victory was guaranteed and began to play it safe, focusing on defence and not risking too much going forward.
69 minutes into the game, Nacional had difficulty finding their positions and their organisation dropped to
inadequate.
With 79 minutes played,
M. Šestić of Nacional fell dramatically just outside the penalty area. However, the referee was unimpressed, and booked him for diving.
LAGUNA will have to do without
P. Ziza for a time, due to a bad foot injury at the 80 minute mark. He was substituted by
D. Di Irio.
81 minutes into the game, Nacional seemed a little tentative in their play as their organization fell to
weak.
LAGUNA's
G. Torrus was shown a yellow card for standing over the ball and blocking an opponent's quick free kick after 84 minutes.
LAGUNA had most of the ball, with 55 percent of possession.
N. Gaborit performed admirably for LAGUNA.
However,
S. Moreno made a disastrous appearance.
Nacional's top performer was clearly
E. Fernandes.
A. Manzo on the other hand, had a terrible day.
The match ends 4 - 0.
