Dark skies made the crowd of 1235 at
Arena Słodków a little nervous, but the rain held off.
Kim Hjort was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Akın Gürtuğ and
Jean-Marc Dumonceau.
SLODKOW tactics involved an interesting 3-5-2 combination.
The following players had been chosen: Sandoval - Painevilu, Lerose, Balthazard - Bertalanič, Álvarez, Negoitã, Ghorbani, Parmonen - Madej, Kloza.
Rivia started off with a 1-5-3 lineup.
They fielded: Labisz - Royal - Klasa, Johannesen, Szczurek, Milenkov, Dzionsko - Jaczewski, Sroka, Pegan.
0 - 1 was the score with 9 minutes played, after
M. Johannesen cut through the central defence and chipped home a goal for Rivia.
The crowd was on its feet 13 minutes into the match, as SLODKOW's
J. Kloza found himself unmarked in front of the goal after a dash up the left side. He calmly put away the 1 - 1 equaliser.
P. Sroka rose like a salmon, and was very close to scoring with a header after a corner, but sent the ball just over the bar.
After 32 minutes,
N. Parmonen came in from the right, feinted, then sped past the off-balance defender to make the score 2 - 1, giving SLODKOW the lead.
33 minutes into the game, Rivia seemed a little tentative in their play as their organization fell to
inadequate.
A corner kick created great disorder in the penalty area with a goal nearly scored by
N. Parmonen. At last, SLODKOW's
D. Balthazard was able to backheel the ball in. 3 - 1.
A magnificent combination in the middle resulted in SLODKOW's
E. Ghorbani increasing the lead to 4 - 1.
38 minutes into the game, Rivia had difficulty finding their positions and their organisation dropped to
weak.
4 - 1 was the halftime score.
Possession in this half belonged to SLODKOW, who controlled the ball 62 percent of the time.
Despite his frustration resulting in the smashing of a few teacups, the coach of Rivia was able to get his message across, and raised Rivia's organisation to
solid.
SLODKOW put themselves up 5 - 1 when
C. Álvarez broke through on the right, leaving the entire defence trailing in his wake.
After this, you could see that the players of SLODKOW were more interested in killing time than scoring more goals.
After 60 minutes, there was a bit of a mixup on the field as Rivia found themselves out of position and their organisation level dropped to
inadequate.
SLODKOW's
D. Balthazard refused to leave the field after injuring his achilles tendon after 74 minutes.
L. Szczurek nearly reduced the lead 77 minutes into the game, but a splendid one-handed save by
S. Sandoval prevented the attempt coming in from the right flank from hitting the back of the net.
E. Ghorbani increased the lead for SLODKOW to 6 - 1, getting a head onto a hooked ball from the right. The ball looked to have taken a deflection on the way in, but he's claiming it!
A bit later, Rivia's
G. Pegan easily reduced the lead to 6 - 2 after a misunderstanding in the home side's central defence.
SLODKOW managed to extend their lead to 7 - 2 when
F. Lerose cut in neatly from the left side and struck a fine shot past the away team's goalkeeper.
Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by SLODKOW, with 58 percent of the ball.
SLODKOW's top performer was clearly
C. Álvarez.
However,
A. Madej made a disastrous appearance.
Rivia's best player was
G. Pegan.
M. Royal was a disappointment, however.
