268 spectators had found their way to
RJs Campus, despite the heavy rain.
The 3-5-2 formation was the choice of RJs.
The lucky starting players: Mühlheim - Fouque, Rosenhammer, Pouly - Forrer, Howarth, Lasagna, Michaud, Wechlin - Silling, Taillefer.
The boys of nebenan started the game in a 5-3-2 formation.
The boys who got to play today were: Sluss - Lemesle, Brülhart, Grüntzig, Robert, Gilgen - Bogli, Chanson, Davoust - Neufahrn, Stair.
While many family and friends had gathered under a nearby garage roof, sipping coffee, the boys on the field were exposed to the forces of nature and these were as rough as the atmosphere on the pitch.
N. Forrer showed great heart however, and had a good game.
RJs pushed through the central midfield, lead by
L. Howarth who also had a fine chance to give his team the go-ahead goal after 17 minutes. However, the shot hit the crossbar.
L. Michaud behaved like the rookie he is 31 minutes into the game as he gave the ball away to an opponent. Lucky for him though, there was no goal.
nebenan had no-one on the bench when
D. Davoust had to leave the game after 32 minutes because of a pulled tendon, leaving the team one player short.
The referee confirmed the score as 0 - 0 when he signalled for the halftime break.
In this half RJs were the most energetic, keeping the ball to themselves for 77 percent of the time.
After a collision involving several players, the referee pointed at the penalty spot.
N. Forrer didn't make a mistake as he gave the home side the lead after 54 minutes.
Several mothers standing on the sideline felt the referee was much too lenient when he only showed
L. Michaud of RJs a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 56 minutes into the game.
Advancing up the left wing proved worthwhile for RJs, who increased their lead to 2 - 0 when
R. Silling broke away from his marker and finished from an acute angle.
N. Forrer of RJs was booked for kicking the ball away after the whistle.
Given a free kick in a difficult position after 77 minutes, RJs did not go for a direct shot but instead aimed for the area just in front of the keeper. The attacking players made several runs as the ball was played and made it hard for the defenders to protect their goal. After a short tussle with the defender,
R. Silling could finally lay the ball to rest behind the keeper. 3 - 0, and proof that it can pay off to come prepared.
As
K. Wechlin was substituted in the 81:th minute, he could take comfort in the fact that his team was in the lead.
A. Neubrecht was the replacement.
RJs pleased their coach greatly, as they maintained 77 percent of possession.
The coach of RJs was especially pleased with
J. Taillefer after the game.
The coach took
A. Neubrecht aside after the game, telling him it is okay to have a bad day on the pitch as long as you keep trying.
The nebenan players gave
G. Brülhart a group hug after the game, claiming he'd been "really great".
G. Sluss needs a lot of extra training, however.
The match ends with a 3 - 0 score.
