previous 1/15 next 3/15  Covasna 0 - 5 Unirea (66926842)

7000 spectators arrived at Covasna Dome, where weather conditions were pretty good for football. Luciano Aguiar was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Mario Rosenheim and Matti Rahunen. Covasna had chosen a strategic 4-4-2 formation. They fielded: Dascãlu - Konstantin, Ursu, Apostol, Cismas - Dumitrescu, Corduneanu, Mutu, Ilinca - Hâldan, Polzer.

Unirea had chosen a strategic 3-5-2 formation. The following players had been chosen: Blomström - Atanasiu, Dumitru, Herrero - Kee Hang, Niculescu, Trurig, Boost, Volpe - Bañuelos, Silverell.

With 14 minutes played, the visitors broke through on the right after some poor defending. D. Niculescu put the ball away for 0 - 1. 16 minutes into the game, Unirea worked the left side industriously creating several opportunities to add to their lead, but just couldn't apply the finishing touch. Some fine movement on the left led to a Unirea goal after 26 minutes, making it 0 - 2. F. Herrero was noted down as the scorer. Confident in their lead, Unirea's players relaxed and focused more on defending the lead than increasing it. Unirea increased their lead after 29 minutes when T. Silverell broke through on the right, upping the score to 0 - 3, much to the home crowd's dismay. 35 minutes into the game, Unirea had difficulty finding their positions and their organisation dropped to passable. 0 - 3 was the halftime score. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Unirea, with 89 percent of the ball.

The Unirea players spent the break getting a rerun of the team's tactical organisation and regained a solid organisation when the game started again. 55 minutes in, Unirea appeared unsure on how to play and their organisation was only passable. Some fine movement on the left led to a Unirea goal after 80 minutes, making it 0 - 4. T. Silverell was noted down as the scorer. 82 minutes into the game, D. Dumitrescu had to leave the pitch due to a knee injury. In came G. Kuttor. After the ball was lifted in from the left, T. Silverell was on his own in the home side's penalty area and should have scored after 83 minutes, but missed, probably due to lack of concentration. The referee showed Covasna's R. Polzer the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. Unirea were forced into a substitution as F. Bañuelos couldn't continue due to some rough treatment, forcing A. Trifan to come in off the bench. Unirea increased their lead after 87 minutes when T. Silverell broke through on the right, upping the score to 0 - 5, much to the home crowd's dismay. This third goal completed a hattrick for T. Silverell. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Unirea, with 96 percent of the ball.

Most important Covasna player was G. Cismas. P. Apostol on the other hand, had a terrible day. The most dominating Unirea player was without a doubt D. Niculescu. However, T. Silverell made a disastrous appearance. The match ends 0 - 5.
