Overcast weather free of rain made for a crowd turnout of 20000 at
Jägermeistarena today.
Greg MacRa was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Charles Lysgård and
Saša Čičić.
BeTeEsVau decided to use a 4-5-1 set up.
They fielded: Marchetti - Tulla, Holderbein, Dickmann, Schuchhardt - Barrocas, Grandits, Parade, Guilhot, Mittnacht - Varelis.
Escorpión tactics involved an interesting 3-4-3 combination.
Starters: Bashir - Opace, Hoz Mulero, Sályi - Braunwalder, Boot, Paraipan, Mitei - Ebels, Beaulien, Güldene.
A. Paraipan gave the visitors the lead 24 minutes into the match to make it 0 - 1. The goal was scored from the penalty spot after a handball in the penalty area.
35 minutes in, BeTeEsVau appeared unsure on how to play and their organisation was only
solid.
A well placed corner kick from
A. Paraipan was followed by
T. Opace's hard but accurate header. The well executed routine resulted in a goal for Escorpión, the score now 0 - 2.
Escorpión's
J. Güldene made it through the home team's defence on the right hand side 39 minutes into the match. After rounding the keeper, he only had to place the ball in the unguarded goal when a defender slid in and cleared the ball off the line.
Halftime score was 0 - 2.
Possession in this half belonged to Escorpión, who controlled the ball 53 percent of the time.
The BeTeEsVau players spent the break getting a rerun of the team's tactical organisation and regained a
solid organisation when the game started again.
At 75 minutes into the game, BeTeEsVau's
E. Guilhot deftly knocked the ball home after an impressive run down the left, reducing the visitors' lead to 1 - 2.
76 minutes into the game, Escorpión were awarded a penalty and
A. Paraipan was able to increase the visitors' lead to 1 - 3 rolling the ball in by the right post.
80 minutes into the game, BeTeEsVau seemed to suffer a certain amount of confusion and they fell to a
solid level of organisation.
BeTeEsVau's
N. Holderbein was shown a yellow card after 84 minutes for slicing down an opponent.
Escorpión were forced into a substitution as
A. Beaulien couldn't continue due to some rough treatment, forcing
L. Haiduc to come in off the bench.
86 minutes into the game, Escorpión worked the left side industriously creating several opportunities to add to their lead, but just couldn't apply the finishing touch.
Escorpión had to manage with a reduced squad after 87 minutes, as
C. Mitei got sent off for a needless foul away from the game's action.
As the captain was no longer on the pitch,
L. Haiduc took over the role of being the Escorpión captain.
The Escorpión players could smell victory in the air.
S. Sályi wasn't in a hurry to leave the field as he was substituted for
N. Tomsen after 88 minutes.
F. Boot wanted to play on, but the Escorpión coach had other ideas, and he was replaced 88 minutes into the game by
C. Boehn.
Escorpión had no available replacements when
T. Opace had to leave the game after 89 minutes because of a pulled tendon, leaving the team a man short.
BeTeEsVau had most of the ball, with 55 percent of possession.
BeTeEsVau's top performer was clearly
N. Holderbein.
On the other hand,
L. Mittnacht's play was disheartening.
Most important Escorpión player was
M. Ebels.
T. Hoz Mulero turned in a dismal performance, however.
The match ends 1 - 3.
