Clouds darkened the skies at
Gösgen as 29220 spectators turned up for the match.
Adrian Szaferski was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Aurélien Teixeira and
Jean-Gabriel Verlynde.
A 4-4-2 alignment was the formation of choice for Niedergösgen.
The following players took the field: Canal - Ifrach, Gràcia, Draganovič, Prefect - Ellinger, Meškerys, Vihanta, Ledergerber - Kubasiak, Michalak.
Freiheit decided to use a 3-5-2 set up.
Lineup: Legrand - Delrue, Frick, Lambertti - de Bruijne, Iberg, Lettenbauer, Vrot, Dinkelmann - Gaudefroy, Maynard.
Niedergösgen saw most attack opportunities on the wings.
R. Frick neatly controlled the ball after a short corner, and knocked it on to
I. Vrot who had the whole net open before him, but only managed to hit the post.
The most controversial moment of the game was likely the penalty given after 19 minutes. Freiheit's
R. Delrue kept his concentration, despite the upset crowd, and calmly put the ball past the keeper to make the score 0 - 1.
The visitors'
R. Gaudefroy took advantage of a misunderstanding between the home side's goalie and centre backs 24 minutes into the match. 0 - 2 for Freiheit.
Niedergösgen were determined to attack on the wing and their central attempts were constantly abandoned in favour of the wings.
At 27 minutes into the game, Niedergösgen's
T. Vihanta deftly knocked the ball home after an impressive run down the left, reducing the visitors' lead to 1 - 2.
1 - 2 was the score after the first half.
Freiheit had most of the ball, with 53 percent of possession.
Some fine passing in the middle of the pitch, carving open the away defence, should have led to a goal for Niedergösgen, but
A. Meškerys's shot went over the bar.
J. Canal got a fingertip on
V. Maynard's shot from the left 56 minutes in, and managed to keep the visitors from going up another goal.
Niedergösgen's counterattacks were lethal to the opposing defence, allowing
X. Ledergerber to score easily from the right flank for 2 - 2.
Freiheit's
R. Delrue had to watch the rest of the game from the sidelines, after twisting his ankle with 61 minutes having been played.
H. Rotkirch was the replacement.
G. Lambertti became the new Freiheit captain.
65 minutes into the game, Freiheit wanted to bring some new energy to their game.
G. Lambertti gave
R. Gassler a quick hug as he left the field.
As the captain was no longer on the pitch,
R. Frick took over the role of being the Freiheit captain.
Niedergösgen were very close to putting themselves one up after 79 minutes as
P. Ellinger got through on the left, but failing in concentration, he shot the ball wide.
Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Freiheit, with 54 percent of the ball.
The most dominating Niedergösgen player was without a doubt
A. Meškerys.
However,
P. Ellinger made a disastrous appearance.
Freiheit's best player was
R. Gaudefroy.
H. Rotkirch on the other hand, had a terrible day.
The match ends 2 - 2.
