The 12904 fans in attendance at St Symphorien were roasting in the hot sun. Jörg Eisenpass was the appointed referee with assistance provided by João Brito and Samy Delalandre. A 3-5-2 alignment was the formation of choice for FCmetz. They fielded: Guerriero - Mölkänen, Adin, Manohar - Latuszek, Cotegipe, Condrea, Dodemond, Campestre - Apell, Muñoz.

Some quick footwork on the left side of the field 10 minutes into the match left Équipe's T. Russo completely free to score. 0 - 1 for the visitors. With 13 minutes played, L. Enslein of Équipe fell dramatically just outside the penalty area. However, the referee was unimpressed, and booked him for diving. A defender managed to keep the ball from crossing the goal-line after a curling shot coming in from the right from K. Lachaud after 30 minutes, and prevented Équipe from going up another goal. With 33 minutes played, FCmetz's I. Condrea found an opening in the visitors' left side defence, but his shot was handled easily by the keeper. FCmetz's T. Mölkänen was shown a yellow card for standing over the ball and blocking an opponent's quick free kick after 34 minutes. Several players seemed a little dazed by the warm weather, and were repeatedly tricked by the clever and agile V. Bergeron. D. Van Der Leen of Équipe received a yellow card after 38 minutes for unsportsmanlike behaviour. Given a free kick close to the byline, FCmetz tried a move that loyal fans may recognise from training. A pass to the side pulled the defence out of position which let Y. Adin slip through on goal. He didn't have to break his stride, and slipped the ball past the keeper to make it 1 - 1, 39 minutes into the game. The teams went for the halftime break at 1 - 1. Équipe had most of the ball, with 52 percent of possession.

The visiting T. Russo was booed thoroughly by the home crowd 59 minutes into the game, after he broke through the middle and scored, resulting in the visitors taking the lead. 1 - 2 was the score. The bench was restless, and with 62 minutes passed FCmetz's coach gave J. Vappula the opportunity the player had been hoping for. I. Condrea reluctantly left the field. 64 minutes into the match, T. Russo came through the middle and almost added to his team's lead, but the shot went wide. Équipe almost scored after a swift counterattack 69 minutes into the game, but D. Fandella put the shot from the left flank just outside the goal. Had it not been for one of the home defenders, D. Van Der Leen would have put Équipe up another goal 70 minutes into the match with his audacious lob from the right wing. The heat made it a terrible day for J. Apell, who seemed unable to keep up with the other players. An indecisive keeper looked on as a free kick by Équipe's E. Yalaz put the visitors up 1 - 3 after 78 minutes. 87 minutes into the game, Équipe were awarded a penalty and E. Yalaz was able to increase the visitors' lead to 1 - 4 rolling the ball in by the right post. K. Manohar tried to get a goal back for FCmetz but despite all his hard work down the right, he just couldn't complete the move. After several obvious shirt pulling incidents, D. Muñoz got himself booked. The manager of FCmetz was not happy. Possession in this half belonged to FCmetz, who controlled the ball 54 percent of the time.

D. Muñoz performed admirably for FCmetz. K. Manohar on the other hand, had a terrible day. Most important Équipe player was D. Fandella. S. Arthur was a disappointment, however. The match ends 1 - 4.
