Fairly good weather for football had drawn a crowd of 18937 to Onder den Dom. Winnie Ibeschitz was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Derek Verpoort and Mansour Yaseen. United almost scored after a swift counterattack 28 minutes into the game, but O. Cluyssen put the shot from the left flank just outside the goal. W. van der Struijk was ever so close to scoring after an excellent corner was beautifully flicked on by M. Voorhoeve, but the ball bounced off the post to safety. With 36 minutes played, after a good run down the left, R. Grancagnolo went down looking for a penalty after a challenge from the visitors' right fullback, but the referee waved play on, and later warned him for diving. Domplein's A. Rebolledo got himself booked for a foul. With the clock showing 38 minutes played, F. Beerepoot equalised for Domplein after curling a free kick around the defensive wall to make the score 1 - 1. The teams went for the halftime break at 1 - 1. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Domplein, with 56 percent of the ball.

United's goal to make the score 1 - 2 came via a questionable penalty, but F. Crombach struck it home without a second thought. After 77 minutes, an incisive pass through the middle gave F. Crombach a chance to increase the lead for United, and he did not disappoint. The score was then 1 - 3. At this point, it was obvious that the players of United lowered the tempo and became more defensively oriented. Domplein didn't give in and with 78 minutes played A. Broo was able to make the score 2 - 3 after an attack on the right. After 79 minutes a very unfortunate collision in the penalty area led to Domplein's A. van den Abeelen being carried off the pitch and replaced by N. van Noord. Domplein claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 57 percent.

Most important Domplein player was A. Broo. On the other hand, A. Rebolledo's play was disheartening. United's best player was P. Lagemaat. H. Vlasveld turned in a dismal performance, however. The match ends 2 - 3.
