previous 6/8 next 8/8  Rd2S 2 - 1 Kekkonen (366615289)

The 2676 spectators at Neapolitan Arena were in for an afternoon of sunshine. Brian Hall was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Uwe Dollinger and Rickard J. Bredquist. A 4-4-2 alignment was the formation of choice for Rd2S. They fielded: Maschi - Zangrillo, Celeghini, Carrieri, Lendini - Vigna, Casaro, Menardo, Siciliani - Rizza, Mangiacasale.

Kekkonen had chosen a strategic 4-4-2 formation. The following players took the field: Nito - Gerino, Pietronero, Piscopo, Verdesca - De Capoa, Simonin, Dal Farra, Disciullo - Cara, Bovolato.

Rd2S had a good opportunity to take the lead as F. Rizza came up the left side, but he struck the ball weakly and it went straight into the arms of B. Nito. With 27 minutes played, the visitors broke through on the right after some poor defending. C. Pietronero put the ball away for 0 - 1. Several players seemed a little dazed by the warm weather, and were repeatedly tricked by the clever and agile F. Vigna. G. Cara was, after 31 minutes, almost able to extend the visitors' lead with a well placed diving header after the ball had looped into the centre, but the home side's keeper S. Maschi made the save. 0 - 1 was the score after the first half. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Rd2S, with 53 percent of the ball.

N. Siciliani didn't pace himself at all, and after a series of daring offensive runs he was too tired to help out in the defensive play. The crowd chanted their encouragement as Rd2S's M. Carrieri came in from the right after 54 minutes and put the ball in the net to level the score at 1 - 1. Boom! What a strike by Rd2S's N. Siciliani! Firing in from 35 yards after 61 minutes, that is probably one of the best goals he's ever scored! 2 - 1. The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave G. Mangiacasale from Rd2S a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 64 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient! In a fantastic display of determination, Kekkonen's A. Gerino forced himself to his feet, after an opponent viciously knocked him down. Rd2S's A. Casaro was shown a yellow card after 66 minutes for slicing down an opponent. After 72 minutes Rd2S's S. Maschi contracted a slight foot injury, but didn't want to leave the game. Kekkonen's C. Pietronero's long shot really ought to have found the net 76 minutes into the match, but it fell just wide of the target. G. Angeloni was called on to replace Rd2S's A. Casaro after 79 minutes following a nasty collision. The Rd2S captaincy was handed to G. Mangiacasale. Possession in this half belonged to Rd2S, who controlled the ball 60 percent of the time.

F. Rizza performed admirably for Rd2S. S. Maschi on the other hand, had a terrible day. Kekkonen's best player was G. Cara. B. Nito was a disappointment, however. The match ends 2 - 1.
