Dark skies made the crowd of 6034 at Coliseum Cartagenero a little nervous, but the rain held off. Felicio Charino was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Norbert Riggenmann and Robert Hussey. Cartagena started off with a 3-4-3 lineup. Pădureanu of Abánades received a yellow card after 26 minutes for unsportsmanlike behaviour. Abánades's V. Mundt gave the visitors a 0 - 1 lead after 30 minutes with a superb strike from the right. V. Mundt was, after 31 minutes, almost able to extend the visitors' lead with a well placed diving header after the ball had looped into the centre, but the home side's keeper S. Salim made the save. D. Pădureanu neatly controlled the ball after a short corner, and knocked it on to F. Souza Dias who had the whole net open before him, but only managed to hit the post. With 35 minutes played, a quick exchange of passes on the left wing freed M. Tuttolomondo of Abánades to slip through the defence and score another goal for the visitors. That made the score 0 - 2. J. Linehan of Abánades took advantage of a mistake on the home side's right after 37 minutes which increased the away team's lead to 0 - 3. At this point, it was obvious that the players of Abánades lowered the tempo and became more defensively oriented. Halftime score was 0 - 3. Possession in this half belonged to Abánades, who controlled the ball 55 percent of the time.

With 47 minutes played, Cartagena's well-worked indirect free kick caused havoc in the penalty area, and when the ball eventually fell to D. Cosculluela he gleefully slotted the ball home to make it 1 - 3. Some fine movement on the left led to a Abánades goal after 66 minutes, making it 1 - 4. V. Mundt was noted down as the scorer. Cartagena's J. Gorchs found himself alone on the left side 79 minutes into the match and laid down a perfect shot - right into the arms of the keeper! 85 minutes into the match, the visitors put themselves ahead 1 - 5 as D. Vigani finished off an attack from the left with a spectacular scissors kick. Abánades claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 58 percent.

J. Gorchs performed admirably for Cartagena. On the other hand, S. Salim's play was disheartening. Most important Abánades player was D. Vigani. D. Pădureanu turned in a dismal performance, however. The match ends 1 - 5.
