previous 10/10 next 2/10  Oldenburg 1 - 4 Kickers (368740632)

51458 spectators had found their way to Theodor Adornos Wiesengrund, despite the heavy rain. Sören Bredander was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Alejandro Ares and Bogdan Bobeicã. Oldenburg started off with a 3-5-2 lineup. They fielded: Riem - Desmond, Weingärtner, Lichtinghagen - Pillhofer, Ottomann, Berr, Lehrhuber, Miedler - Segl, Pryshliak.

Kickers decided to use a 3-5-2 set up. Lineup: Gmach - Proost, Varta, Santisteban - Mothe, Simons, Velss, Dovensee, Ozeri - Predieri, Kraul.

M. Desmond slipped and slithered in the wet grass. His usual rapid runs were nowhere to be seen today. The terraces were silenced after 20 minutes when Kickers's D. Predieri put the guests ahead 0 - 1, following an attack on the right. After 22 minutes, Kickers's O. Varta burst through the central defence and let loose a cannonball of a shot, scoring for 0 - 2. Confident in their lead, Kickers's players relaxed and focused more on defending the lead than increasing it. The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave M. Desmond from Oldenburg a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 24 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient! A loud groan was heard from the fans of Kickers, as T. Velss left the pitch in too much pain to finish the match. B. Borovský took his place on the field. At 26 minutes into the game, Oldenburg's C. Berr deftly knocked the ball home after an impressive run down the left, reducing the visitors' lead to 1 - 2. 1 - 2 was the halftime score. Possession in this half belonged to Oldenburg, who controlled the ball 53 percent of the time.

Given a free kick close to the byline, Kickers tried a move that loyal fans may recognise from training. A pass to the side pulled the defence out of position which let M. Simons slip through on goal. He didn't have to break his stride, and slipped the ball past the keeper to make it 1 - 3, 59 minutes into the game. J. Kraul's lightning pace was too much for J. Weingärtner who could only look on as the Kickers player blasted one home. 1 - 4. 83 minutes into the game R. Miedler could see that the opposing goalie was out of position and tried an unexpected lob that the keeper just barely reached. The rebound went to M. Pillhofer who failed to hit the target. The referee showed Oldenburg's A. Segl the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. C. Berr of Oldenburg received a yellow card after 88 minutes for unsportsmanlike behaviour. Oldenburg claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 52 percent.

O. Pryshliak performed admirably for Oldenburg. M. Desmond was a disappointment, however. Kickers's top performer was clearly J. Kraul. R. Proost on the other hand, had a terrible day. The match ends 1 - 4.
