previous 4/10 next 6/10  cairns 3 - 0 Roadkill (371403772)

A brilliantly sunny day had enticed a crowd of 42940 to All stars Arena. Karl Tradt was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Niki Jacobsen and Adriano Minicucci. cairns tactics involved an interesting 5-3-2 combination. Starters: Kowalewski - Karauria, Didak, Makki, Halligan, Wilson - Holbratt, Milosevic, Faulkner - Kanun, Warren.

Roadkill had chosen a strategic 4-4-2 formation. The following players took the field: Galvano - Feyto, Haua, Mpellos, Randle - Sıram, Allan, Gastou, Tetzel - Catty, Ebrar.

cairns clearly preferred using their ability to attack in the middle. After a fine move down the middle S. Didak nearly gave the home side a goal after 17 minutes. However the finishing shot went just wide. Roadkill's K. Gastou was shown a yellow card for standing over the ball and blocking an opponent's quick free kick after 19 minutes. cairns players heard their coach's words ringing in their ears and steered their wing attacks to the middle instead. P. Kanun gave cairns the lead with a beautiful free kick after 29 minutes. 1 - 0! The visitors' equaliser seemed sure to come after 37 minutes, following a one on one situation around the left hand side of the goal area, but T. Kowalewski got the best of it, blocking the shot from F. Tetzel. The sun seemed to put J. Warren in a great mood, and he showed off his technical skills all match long. Roadkill's defence sent a ball soaring up the middle on a beautiful counterattack with 41 minutes gone, but M. Ebrar's finish was met by the reaching hands of the keeper. The teams went for the halftime break at 1 - 0. cairns claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 66 percent.

As the game started to slip away for Roadkill, the manager decided to change the tactical approach. cairns's R. Wilson was shown a yellow card after 80 minutes for slicing down an opponent. 82 minutes into the match, the visitors' central line of defence had to look on as J. Warren broke through, making the score 2 - 0 for cairns. The bench was restless, and with 84 minutes passed Roadkill's coach gave T. Bradtke the opportunity the player had been hoping for. L. Catty reluctantly left the field. A corner kick created great disorder in the penalty area with a goal nearly scored by D. Karauria. At last, cairns's J. Warren was able to backheel the ball in. 3 - 0. cairns's B. Holbratt got himself booked for a foul. cairns had most of the ball, with 66 percent of possession.

cairns's best player was T. Kowalewski. S. Didak turned in a dismal performance, however. Roadkill's top performer was clearly D. Randle. On the other hand, J. Feyto's play was disheartening. The match ends 3 - 0.
