22-04-2012 23.10
Dark skies made the crowd of 52004 at
FC Woermaribo-Dome a little nervous, but the rain held off.
Elias Xu was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Aníbal Lobão and
Johan Tardy.
Woermaribo had chosen a strategic 4-5-1 formation.
Starters: Rueda - Xalabar, von Breitungen, Scatolini, Pauls - Drekalović, Hungerbühler, Feigl, Nisi, Nepper Christensen - Vennix.
warriors decided to use a 3-5-2 set up.
The following players took the field: Cabanillas - Houtepen, Crnčević, Tafani - Bilal, Negro, Saks, Kekana, Albani - Forcada, Baniher.
Woermaribo saw most attack opportunities on the wings.
After 4 minutes, a penalty kick by
D. Albani could have resulted in the lead for the visitors, but the keeper made the save.
Woermaribo had a good opportunity to attack in the middle, but remembered their instructions to focus on wing attacks instead.
After 6 minutes of play,
L. Nisi gave the home team a 1 - 0 lead after an attack coming in from the right.
12 minutes in, warriors's
M. Tafani received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first.
Z. Vennix should probably have put his team up another goal after 13 minutes, but some great goalkeeping by
M. Cabanillas kept the visitors in the game.
Halftime score was 1 - 0.
Woermaribo claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 51 percent.
The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave
L. Baniher from warriors a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 47 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient!
C. Negro was first to reach a ball launched long through the center from warriors's defence 49 minutes into the game. He managed to keep his cool and beat the goalkeeper to make the score 1 - 1.
Woermaribo could have put themselves ahead after 54 minutes but
Z. Vennix missed a volley shot on a ball coming in from the right.
After 73 minutes, warriors's
P. Forcada made his way through the middle and nonchalantly placed the ball out of the keeper's reach, putting the visitors up 1 - 2.
This part of the game was a standoff between the teams in terms of possession.
The most dominating Woermaribo player was without a doubt
D. Feigl.
However,
A. Scatolini made a disastrous appearance.
warriors's top performer was clearly
L. Baniher.
M. Houtepen turned in a dismal performance, however.
The match ends 1 - 2.
