previous 6/10 next 8/10  Saez 1 - 0 Fuerte (375603225)

Due to an all-day shower, 57900 paying spectators got to see a match on a pitch-turned-bog at La Tierra del Dragon Celeste. Jari Rusi was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Vilmos Kövecses and Maurice Esch. Saez had chosen a strategic 3-5-2 formation. They fielded: Delgadillo - Marsh, Khudyakov, Isufi - Rancaño, Avnskjold, Vollendorf, Morris, Persson - Sánchez, 費凱 (Feikai).

A 4-5-1 alignment was the formation of choice for Fuerte. Lineup: Nielsen - Valiente, Zielhuis, Bianchi, Marić - Taraud, Lerga, Valdeliso, Vairinho, Dueñas - Mendizabal.

After 13 minutes a well-practised indirect free kick routine by Saez was easily anticipated by the defenders. The players forward were so well marked, they were left with few viable options. The home side put themselves ahead 1 - 0 after 33 minutes courtesy of a breakthrough from J. Morris, who scored with a stunning volley following a cross from the right wing. J. Avnskjold had a fantastic opportunity to put Saez up another goal 38 minutes into the match, but he fired just over the crossbar. It was 1 - 0 at the break. Saez had most of the ball, with 52 percent of possession.

I. Sánchez should probably have put his team up another goal after 49 minutes, but some great goalkeeping by J. Nielsen kept the visitors in the game. Saez's opponents know to be wary of D. Rancaño's speed, but it made little difference as he flew past the defence 63 minutes into the game. Only the keeper could stop him - and he did with a perfectly timed dive! I. Sánchez wanted to play on, but the Saez coach had other ideas, and he was replaced 70 minutes into the game by T. Skurstenis. T. Skurstenis became the new Saez captain. After a short break after 70 minutes, Saez seemed to change their tactical approach a bit. After 70 minutes, the Saez players received new instructions from their manager on how to keep in control of the game. Saez's R. Persson had to watch the rest of the game from the sidelines, after twisting his ankle with 76 minutes having been played. O. Frommholz was the replacement. Fuerte claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 51 percent.

Saez's best player was J. Avnskjold. However, O. Frommholz made a disastrous appearance. P. Valdeliso performed admirably for Fuerte. B. Valiente on the other hand, had a terrible day. The match ends 1 - 0.
