previous 2/10 next 4/10  ictux 5 - 2 Quedis (375735394)

It was an exceptionally sunny day for the crowd of 22734 that came out to ictux Arena. Jérôme Menuet was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Mesrob Yezikyan and Aleksi Peltola. ictux started off with a 2-5-3 lineup. The following players took the field: Magrini - Fernández, Vukičević - Zemlicka, Boros, Dittborn, Neumann, Fraschini - Flores, Pimentel, Gálvez.

Quedis tactics involved an interesting 3-5-2 combination. The following players had been chosen: Ribeiro - Barasarte, M'Boup, Tamayo - Warner, Schwarzer, Yuraszeck, Castañeda, Salinas - Kötzing, Maldonado.

The strategy for ictux was to use their ability to press. Quedis used their ability to concentrate their attacks in the middle of the pitch, rather than on the wings. It was obvious that team Quedis had instructions to attack in the middle instead of on the wings. Quedis had several good opportunities to take the lead, especially 9 minutes in when E. Schwarzer came up alone against A. Magrini who managed a block. ictux's A. Gálvez was shown a yellow card for standing over the ball and blocking an opponent's quick free kick after 10 minutes. M. Tamayo enjoyed the sunshine and demonstrated his stunning technique over and over again. After 25 minutes, D. Pimentel came in from the right, feinted, then sped past the off-balance defender to make the score 1 - 0, giving ictux the lead. 28 minutes into the game, ictux seemed to suffer a certain amount of confusion and they fell to a inadequate level of organisation. With 32 minutes played, ictux put themselves up 2 - 0 when the visiting defenders lost the ball to K. Neumann, who came up from the left and proceeded to coolly round the keeper and knock the ball home. At this time in the match, ictux were using their skill at pressing to successfully stifle the game. The referee showed Quedis's F. Yuraszeck the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. 36 minutes into the game, ictux seemed a little tentative in their play as their organization fell to poor. ictux's talent at pressing frustrated the spectators as the game became a dire midfield struggle. The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave Z. Flores from ictux a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 38 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient! Cheers filled the stadium as D. Boros broke through the visitors' central defence to put away the ball to increase the lead to 3 - 0 to ictux. 3 - 0 was the score after the first half. ictux enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 56 percent of possession.

A review of the gameplan helped ictux get back to a passable organisation when the referee blew his whistle again. Although the whole team were struggling to impress, Quedis's B. Maldonado was singled out as being the problem as he was called off the pitch after 46 minutes. C. Mcnamara was given a chance to change things around. R. Fernández left the field with a smile on his face as he was substituted 46 minutes into the game, as his team was in the lead. M. Ziobrowski was the replacement. A. Vukičević wanted to play on, but the ictux coach had other ideas, and he was replaced 46 minutes into the game by J. Hemmes. The Quedis free kick 57 minutes into the match seemed wasted, as the shot was both short and off target. But was this actually a plan? The ball landed at the feet of F. Warner, who was completely unmarked in the box. That's 3 - 1! Quedis needed a fresh pair of legs on the field, and after 60 minutes F. Warner made way for J. Cardenas. ictux solidified their lead at the 65 minute mark, as Z. Flores dribbled the ball through the opposing central defence and scored to make it 4 - 1. After 67 minutes, there was a bit of a mixup on the field as ictux found themselves out of position and their organisation level dropped to weak. The bench was restless, and with 74 minutes passed Quedis's coach gave D. Fenieux the opportunity the player had been hoping for. M. Tamayo reluctantly left the field. N. Fraschini could have increased the lead after 76 minutes, but his shot hit the post after a nice combination in the middle of the park. 84 minutes in, ictux appeared unsure on how to play and their organisation was only poor. A speedy charge from the left side of the field increased the lead of ictux to 5 - 1 as D. Pimentel finished it off competently, firing in from an acute angle. Confident in their lead, ictux's players relaxed and focused more on defending the lead than increasing it. Quedis players heard their coach's words ringing in their ears and steered their wing attacks to the middle instead. Quedis were desperate to get a goal back and pushed forward through the middle 89 minutes into the game. After a scramble in the box, the ball dropped to J. Cardenas, who smashed it home to make the score 5 - 2. ictux had most of the ball, with 58 percent of possession.

The most dominating ictux player was without a doubt A. Gálvez. However, N. Fraschini made a disastrous appearance. B. Kötzing performed admirably for Quedis. I. Ribeiro turned in a dismal performance, however. The match ends 5 - 2.
