(377289580)

14-03-2012 04.00
Dark skies made the crowd of 12650 at
Royal Arena a little nervous, but the rain held off.
Arttu Suontakanen was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Felix Nimrodi and
Sven Alt.
Wall started off with a 4-5-1 lineup.
They fielded: Anthony - Vale, Tatafu, Pomatta, Millard - Pertola, Grünebaum, Tahar, Smoljan, Miranda Sousa - Black.
Eagles had chosen a strategic 3-5-2 formation.
Lineup: Ashby Johnson - McLean, Paulides, Fofikos - bin Emoi, Akpaka, Lenza, Vercesi, Puskas - Al-Sulaiti, Ciancaglini.
The strategy for Wall was to use their ability to press.
Wall's ability to press all over the field frequently paid dividends.
T. Pertola of Wall received a yellow card after 22 minutes for unsportsmanlike behaviour.
With 36 minutes gone,
T. Pertola suddenly found himself completely free on the right wing when a counterattack by Wall caught their opponents by surprise. Only a great save by the opposing keeper prevented him from scoring.
The teams went for the halftime break at 0 - 0.
Possession in this half belonged to Eagles, who controlled the ball 55 percent of the time.
As the 46 minute mark approached, the Eagles coach decided it was time for a substitution.
D. Ciancaglini reluctantly made way for
V. Dye on the pitch.
G. Anthony looked great 54 minutes into the match after stopping a shot from the middle of the penalty area from the visitors'
J. McLean.
B. Ashby Johnson would have preferred to play on, but his coach decided otherwise.
L. Ungan entered the game for Eagles as the match clock showed 60 minutes.
60 minutes into the match, the referee signalled for a Eagles substitution.
R. Kone came on for
S. Lenza.
After 70 minutes, the Wall coach wanted to see a new face on the pitch, waving
R. Black off the field.
J. Raimundo took his place.
B. Tatafu sailed high above the opponents as he headed in a corner kick from
J. Raimundo after 72 minutes of play, making the score 1 - 0.
A. bin Emoi made a run for the goal 73 minutes into the game but the home team's left back managed to sort the situation out in the end.
At this time in the match, Wall were using their skill at pressing to successfully stifle the game.
N. Fofikos could have made it all square after 89 minutes, if only his free kick had been a few inches to the other side of the post.
Eagles enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 71 percent of possession.
The most dominating Wall player was without a doubt
N. Grünebaum.
G. Anthony turned in a dismal performance, however.
Eagles's top performer was clearly
R. Kone.
N. Fofikos was a disappointment, however.
The match ends 1 - 0.
