The crowd of 355 turning up at De Waterpoort today were greeted with some nasty showers of rain. Osman Bıldırcın was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Quintin Oconnell and Thimo Daamen. Waterpoortboys had chosen a strategic 3-4-3 formation. Waterpoortboys clearly preferred using their ability to attack in the middle. F. Comyn was uncomfortable with the soggy pitch as he couldn't move the ball around with his usual grace. L. Drábek was very close to giving Waterpoortboys the lead with an ingenious free kick routine 11 minutes into the match, but the ball just grazed the bar. P. Lundér spent most of the time in a heap on the ground today, his normally rapid movement hindered by the slippery pitch. Kırca swung in a good chance from the left, but the visitors' defence were able to clear the ball. After 30 minutes, S. Homberger put Waterpoortboys ahead 2 - 0 when he rose to head in a cross from the right wing. 36 minutes into the match, L. Drábek could have extended the lead, but his powerful free kick went just over the bar. It was 2 - 0 at the break. Waterpoortboys enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 59 percent of possession.

After 51 minutes, a couple of quick and successful challenges followed by a shot from just outside the penalty area by C. Eggerl might have resulted in another goal for Waterpoortboys. However, R. Schipper made a spectacular save. Some things can only be learned through experience, and E. Debulpaep should take his lesson to heart after nearly gifting Waterpoortboys a goal with 59 minutes of the match played. Waterpoortboys were determined to attack in the middle, even their wing attacks ended up centrally. Waterpoortboys solidified their lead at the 61 minute mark, as F. Comyn dribbled the ball through the opposing central defence and scored to make it 3 - 0. By now, the players in Waterpoortboys felt that victory was guaranteed and began to play it safe, focusing on defence and not risking too much going forward. Waterpoortboys's L. Bonnot had to watch the rest of the game from the sidelines, after twisting his ankle with 70 minutes having been played. Z. Ljuština was the replacement. A great save by keeper R. Schipper after 72 minutes kept the visitors in the game after L. Drábek struck from the left with a real cannonball. Things were deteriorating for the away team as Waterpoortboys scored another to make it 4 - 0 after a left side attack resulted in a goal for S. Homberger after 74 minutes. The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave P. Lundér from 1985 a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 79 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient! Waterpoortboys had most of the ball, with 57 percent of possession.
