04-04-2012 16.20
The 3368 fans in attendance at
Black Demond Arena were roasting in the hot sun.
Tomislav Kruneš was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Alan Mayes and
Brian Madsen.
BD tactics involved an interesting 5-4-1 combination.
Starters: Nora - Kapinos, Tuama, Domingorena, Porto e Melo, Nessler - Pogač, Katner, Barbagallo, Villaseca - Sheppard.
Paarswit started off with a 4-5-1 lineup.
The following players took the field: Grenling - Nordraak, Latruwe, Meulders, Lebar - Otjacques, Malagón, Rundgren, Louwaege, Batóg - Yordanov.
Counter-attacking seemed to be the preferred strategy of Paarswit.
34 minutes into the game, BD seemed a little tentative in their play as their organization fell to
passable.
BD's
J. Villaseca's long shot really ought to have found the net 38 minutes into the match, but it fell just wide of the target.
Good work by the Paarswit defensive line after 39 minutes produced a good counterattack chance, which cut elegantly down the middle of the pitch and found
V. Yordanov alone in front of the goal, but his shot whistled just wide.
B. Barbagallo hit the corner kick straight to the keeper, but it was mishandled, giving BD's
D. Sheppard an easy chance to knock it in for 1 - 0.
R. Porto e Melo fired a shot from distance after 41 minutes, but the long shot couldn't find the net for BD.
A. Tuama had a fantastic opportunity to put BD up another goal 42 minutes into the match, but he fired just over the crossbar.
Paarswit earned themselves a free kick after a counterattack wasn't dealt with adequately by their opponents.
W. Batóg powered the shot in for 1 - 1.
1 - 1 was the halftime score.
BD claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 63 percent.
During the break, BD's coach went through the team's tactics yet again, getting them up to
solid organisation.
50 minutes into the game, BD wanted to bring some new energy to their game.
F. Pogač gave
S. Schimmel a quick hug as he left the field.
R. Porto e Melo wasn't much help defensively. His energy-consuming forward runs proved quite costly in the oppressive heat.
As the 60 minute mark approached, the BD coach decided it was time for a substitution.
J. Villaseca reluctantly made way for
A. Cantinflas on the pitch.
65 minutes into the match, the referee signalled for a BD substitution.
D. Noser came on for
D. Sheppard.
The home crowd was not impressed by the fancy moves of Paarswit's
V. Nordraak after 69 minutes. He converted a pass from the left for a goal, resulting in the visitors taking the 1 - 2 lead.
With 73 minutes played, seemingly due to lack of experience,
B. Latruwe needlessly tripped an opponent just outside the penalty area, but the free kick that followed didn't succeed.
D. Noser's technique was perfect on this sunny day and led to some breathtaking tricks that bamboozled the defence.
The crowd roared in delight as
D. Noser finished off a spectacular series of passes through the middle to even the score for BD 80 minutes into the match. 2 - 2.
83 minutes in, Paarswit appeared unsure on how to play and their organisation was only
passable.
Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by BD, with 63 percent of the ball.
As neither team was able to break the deadlock before the end of regular play, the teams took to the field again for extra time.
The coach gave his players an extra tactical briefing during the break, and after that BD had
excellent organisation.
Despite his frustration resulting in the smashing of a few teacups, the coach of Paarswit was able to get his message across, and raised Paarswit's organisation to
solid.
R. Porto e Melo gave BD the lead as he successfully challenged the guests' central defenders, then slotted the ball into the bottom corner, giving the keeper no chance. 3 - 2
Extra time over, BD were the victors!
Most important BD player was
C. Domingorena.
On the other hand,
R. Porto e Melo's play was disheartening.
Paarswit's best player was
V. Yordanov.
J. Malagón on the other hand, had a terrible day.
The match ends 3 - 2.
