26-04-2012 01.30
The weather was pretty good, and a crowd of 2237 had shown up at
El Gigante de Lugano for the match.
José Vallines was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Rikkert Wemekamp and
Ard Kortendijk.
A 3-4-3 alignment was the formation of choice for Atlético.
Starters: Schutz - Hattu, Johansen, Garbett - Lacasa, Weener, Vojvoda, Tanfara - Aranda, Pasiña, Maglione.
POPPER had chosen a strategic 3-5-2 formation.
The following players had been chosen: Mayan - Izagirre, Tirol, Gaston - Broda, Kielpinski, Barzasi, Cappadoro, Moll - Simionică, Jaremchuk.
Today, POPPER's strategy involved concentrating on the flanks for their attacks.
After some beautiful movement down the left wing,
S. Maglione scored for Atlético putting them ahead 1 - 0, after 2 minutes.
28 minutes into the match, the visitors' central line of defence had to look on as
P. Hattu broke through, making the score 2 - 0 for Atlético.
S. Tanfara really should have scored when he was chosen by fate to confront a wide open goal following a great play by
S. Weener after a corner.
Atlético's
I. Aranda increased the lead to 3 - 0, after he saw his shot go between the legs of the advancing goalkeeper following some good play down the right wing after 36 minutes.
37 minutes into the game,
S. Weener had to leave the pitch due to a knee injury. In came
G. Król.
After 38 minutes, Atlético's
J. Johansen found the back of the goal with a beautiful free kick. 4 - 0.
Confident in their lead, Atlético's players relaxed and focused more on defending the lead than increasing it.
Atlético managed to extend their lead to 5 - 0 when
J. Johansen cut in neatly from the left side and struck a fine shot past the away team's goalkeeper.
5 - 0 was the score after the first half.
Atlético enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 65 percent of possession.
A magnificent combination in the middle resulted in Atlético's
I. Aranda increasing the lead to 6 - 0.
59 minutes into the game, POPPER seemed a little tentative in their play as their organization fell to
inadequate.
Atlético solidified their lead at the 70 minute mark, as
C. Pasiña dribbled the ball through the opposing central defence and scored to make it 7 - 0.
Atlético increased the lead as
C. Pasiña struck to make the score 8 - 0 after an attack from the left left him unmarked in front of the keeper.
76 minutes into the game, POPPER seemed to suffer a certain amount of confusion and they fell to a
inadequate level of organisation.
H. Tirol had a lethal looking free kick that grazed the post after 84 minutes.
With 86 minutes played, seemingly due to lack of experience,
J. Cappadoro needlessly tripped an opponent just outside the penalty area, but the free kick that followed didn't succeed.
A speedy charge from the left side of the field increased the lead of Atlético to 9 - 0 as
D. Garbett finished it off competently, firing in from an acute angle.
After 87 minutes, the away team failed to deal with a good exchange of passes on the right, and
G. Król gave the Atlético supporters even more to cheer about when he increased the lead to 10 - 0.
Atlético had most of the ball, with 68 percent of possession.
Atlético's best player was
G. Król.
J. Vojvoda on the other hand, had a terrible day.
B. Simionică performed admirably for POPPER.
X. Gaston turned in a dismal performance, however.
The match ends 10 - 0.
