1666 fans braved the pouring rain at
Shohadaye Santiago Bernabeo.
Rudolf Bollenbacher was the appointed referee.
Tehran tactics involved an interesting 3-5-2 combination.
The following players took the field: Locqueneux - Güzay, Anjom, Breyne - Sobjanek, Velashjerdi, Dalstad, Ghalenoei, Iraji - Fonseca, Bustamante.
Onda had chosen a strategic 2-5-3 formation.
The following players had been chosen: Laine - Alarto, Jortama - Olsen, Heinikorpi, Iivanainen, Isopoussu, Karkkunen - Kilpiäinen, Hirsikorpi, Lukula.
It was an obvious ambition of Tehran to use their ability at attacking on the flanks.
The wings were the focus of most of Onda's attacks today.
Attacking on the wings was the choice for Tehran, and they were successfully passing the ball from the middle to the wings to attack.
After some beautiful movement down the left wing,
M. Velashjerdi scored for Tehran putting them ahead 1 - 0, after 5 minutes.
Some brilliant football from the visitors' right wing resulted in a levelling of the score as Onda's
K. Jortama put the ball in the onion bag after 16 minutes to make it 1 - 1.
Given a free kick close to the byline, Onda tried a move that loyal fans may recognise from training. A pass to the side pulled the defence out of position which let
E. Alarto slip through on goal. He didn't have to break his stride, and slipped the ball past the keeper to make it 1 - 2, 18 minutes into the game.
Tehran's
M. Güzay got himself booked for a foul.
It was a bad day for the usually speedy
J. Ghalenoei. The mud seemed to slow him down.
A. Bustamante showed the skills that make him a real crowd pleaser as he, after 31 minutes, wove through the guests' entire central defence and put the 2 - 2 equaliser away.
With 35 minutes played, the visitors broke through on the right after some poor defending.
E. Olsen put the ball away for 2 - 3.
Halftime score was 2 - 3.
Onda had most of the ball, with 55 percent of possession.
T. Heinikorpi of Onda received a yellow card after 73 minutes for unsportsmanlike behaviour.
With 74 minutes played,
O. Hirsikorpi nearly put the visitors another one up as he broke through in the middle and fired from just outside the box, but his shot passed just over the bar.
J. Lukula of Onda took advantage of a mistake on the home side's right after 76 minutes which increased the away team's lead to 2 - 4.
The players of Onda now seemed to think the job was done and acted more defensively, just waiting for the ref to blow the final whistle.
Tehran had to make a substitution after 78 minutes.
A. Locqueneux limped off the field and was replaced by
G. Huleux.
E. Alarto increased the visitors' lead by putting a volley away after a pass from the right. 2 - 5.
Content with how the game was proceeding, the Onda coach let
J. Hokkila replace
E. Olsen after 81 minutes.
S. Kilpiäinen was the new captain of Onda - handed the armband by the departing player.
P. Sobjanek of Tehran was booked for kicking the ball away after the whistle.
A marvellous Tehran effort on the right-hand side resulted in a goal after 83 minutes by
A. Bustamante, making the score 3 - 5.
Onda claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 55 percent.
Most important Tehran player was
E. Fonseca.
On the other hand,
H. Breyne's play was disheartening.
Onda's top performer was clearly
T. Karkkunen.
J. Isopoussu on the other hand, had a terrible day.
The match ends 3 - 5.
