The 1987 spectators at Galicia Arena were in for an afternoon of sunshine. Róbert Móricz was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Víctor Pier and Ari Kolling. Mineros were relying on their ability to counter-attack. U.C.L.A took the lead 5 minutes into the game by 1 - 0, as J. Blumenfeld elegantly received a long range pass through the middle, finishing off with a half-volley shot just below the bar. It was a hot and sunny day, and several players seemed worn out. Maybe this was why J. Villena found an unusual amount of space for his snappy footwork. Mineros caught their opponents out with a clever counterattack down the right wing 37 minutes into the match. A. Alfonzo was able to finish off the move - 1 - 1. The counterattacks of Mineros were deadly and 39 minutes into the game, P. Luongo received a nice pass from the right flank, making it 1 - 2. S. Mrkonja of U.C.L.A was booked for kicking the ball away after the whistle. U.C.L.A's J. Villena made an attempt at equalising 42 minutes into the match, coming in from the right, but the ball hit the post and the defence easily cleared the rebound. The crowd gasped as E. Segura of Mineros was flattened by an opponent after 43 minutes and had to be carried off. M. Sporna came in off the bench. 1 - 2 was the score after the first half. Possession in this half belonged to U.C.L.A, who controlled the ball 73 percent of the time.

U.C.L.A needed a fresh pair of legs on the field, and after 46 minutes S. Mrkonja made way for K. Haderer. J. Morzyński didn't pace himself at all, and after a series of daring offensive runs he was too tired to help out in the defensive play. U.C.L.A tried to even things up by sending a long ball towards the centrally placed strikers, but the visitors' defence got the best of this rather direct style of play. After 65 minutes, the defensive line of Mineros created a counterattack through the middle that gave P. Luongo a good look at the goal, but his shot glanced harmlessly off the crossbar. After 76 minutes, G. Pires got through on the right and was very close to equalising for the home side, but didn't get the shot away. Coming in from the right, Mineros had a good opportunity to convert on a counterattack after 79 minutes, but M. Sporna's attempt to finish was easily stopped. 82 minutes in, Mineros's M. Herrera received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first. With 83 minutes played, after a good run down the left, M. Fernández-Savater went down looking for a penalty after a challenge from the visitors' right fullback, but the referee waved play on, and later warned him for diving. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by U.C.L.A, with 74 percent of the ball.

U.C.L.A's top performer was clearly E. Yacobone. W. Palacios was a disappointment, however. J. Morzyński performed admirably for Mineros. M. Sporna turned in a dismal performance, however. The match ends 1 - 2.
