3237 spectators arrived at
Gounaradiko, where weather conditions were pretty good for football.
Sandu Ioanid was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Witold Jastrzemski and
Karl Gehring.
Paltadiakos tactics involved an interesting 4-5-1 combination.
The following players had been chosen: Pipio - Tomé, Mekelis, Meert, Compania - Henriksson, Kounelakis, Mpardakis, Tsouloufas, Lima Fernandes - Karapetros.
KOMETA had chosen a strategic 3-4-3 formation.
Lineup: Zalaznik - Remlein, Milasi, Veltman - Ďásek, Agter, Bengtsson, Králík - Gisiger, Bielva, Zuber.
KOMETA tried to focus their attacks down the middle.
Paltadiakos took the lead 22 minutes into the game by 1 - 0, as
B. Mekelis elegantly received a long range pass through the middle, finishing off with a half-volley shot just below the bar.
The visitors' equaliser seemed sure to come after 24 minutes, following a one on one situation around the left hand side of the goal area, but
I. Pipio got the best of it, blocking the shot from
D. Agter.
1 - 0 was the halftime score.
Paltadiakos claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 61 percent.
T. Karapetros should probably have put his team up another goal after 61 minutes, but some great goalkeeping by
Z. Zalaznik kept the visitors in the game.
KOMETA were close to putting the equaliser away after 70 minutes as the opposing defence lost control of the ball to
M. Bielva in a scuffle towards the left of the goal, but in the end the ball was cleared over the dead ball line.
B. Mekelis's lack of experience almost gave KOMETA a goal after 76 minutes, but the shot went right into the keeper's arms.
G. Henriksson of Paltadiakos was booked for kicking the ball away after the whistle.
F. Zuber's speed was clear to see after 84 minutes, as he darted down the wing and released
M. Bielva who placed the ball into the back of the net to make the score 1 - 1.
With 86 minutes gone, a long pass from the defence of Paltadiakos resulted in a counterattack that set
E. Compania free through the middle, but the keeper made a spectacular diving save.
Paltadiakos enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 57 percent of possession.
Still tied after 90 minutes, the match continued into extra time.
With 92 minutes played
V. Tomé almost put the home team one ahead on a cross coming in from the right, but the shot went just wide.
With 105 minutes played, the home side managed to get a 2 - 1 lead as
A. Kounelakis flipped the ball in after a cross from the right.
Game over, Paltadiakos win!
Paltadiakos's best player was
N. Mpardakis.
On the other hand,
T. Karapetros's play was disheartening.
Most important KOMETA player was
B. Gisiger.
However,
S. Veltman made a disastrous appearance.
The match ends 2 - 1.
