It had rained all day, but 22532 hardy fans still made it out to Sporting Arena. Bengt Renkvist was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Stéphane Cavalli and Bert Claessens. Sportu started off with a 5-2-3 lineup. They fielded: Iorga - Graur, Zoerner, Stănescu, Bauler, Karevaara - Papuc, Ivan - Zuiderveld, Halyavka, Szumiński.

Sportu clearly had decided to counter-attack when they could. For their match strategy, Steaua had decided to use their ability to counter-attack whenever possible. 80 minutes into the game Steaua managed a counterattack, but A. de Jesus took a soft shot from the left flank that was easy prey for the alert keeper. 84 minutes in, Steaua's H. Brinkkemper received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first. They were singing the praises of H. Zuiderveld 86 minutes into the match after his speculative chip from the middle of the penalty box found its way over the visitors' keeper to make the score 1 - 0 to Sportu. E. Halyavka hit the corner kick straight to the keeper, but it was mishandled, giving Sportu's W. Zoerner an easy chance to knock it in for 2 - 0. Sportu claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 66 percent.

Sportu's top performer was clearly A. Szumiński. F. Graur turned in a dismal performance, however. Most important Steaua player was H. Brinkkemper. However, K. Üstal made a disastrous appearance. The match ends 2 - 0.
