previous 2/10 next 4/10  United 5 - 1 Aieie (382182887)

A brilliantly sunny day had enticed a crowd of 3988 to Argos Arena. Nicolas Morel was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Matteo Corvaglia and Iván Lupis. United had chosen a strategic 3-5-2 formation. They fielded: Severo - Bertalan, Da Vinci, Bobone - Mares, Castello, Bajević, Scharff, Woudstra - Higuera, Kmiołek.

Aieie started off with a 5-3-2 lineup. The following players took the field: Puhali - Durzu, Pettersson, García, Anastasio, Acosta - Parrella, Zeppegno, Di Costanzo - Prasca, Biancofiore.

The wings were the focus of most of United's attacks today. 4 minutes into the game, C. Prasca had to leave the pitch due to a knee injury. In came A. Segatto. L. Bajević received some harsh words from his coach after he acted foolishly 11 minutes into the match, probably out of lack of experience, and almost let an opponent score. Attacking on the wings was the choice for United, and they were successfully passing the ball from the middle to the wings to attack. With 19 minutes played, the home side managed to get a 1 - 0 lead as D. Higuera flipped the ball in after a cross from the right. Aieie managed, after 24 minutes, to even the score at 1 - 1 with a lucky free kick by S. Biancofiore. Somehow the ball squirmed its way through the defensive wall! United's A. Da Vinci was shown a yellow card for standing over the ball and blocking an opponent's quick free kick after 27 minutes. An accurate cross from B. Woudstra of United was met with a wonderful glancing header from D. Higuera, hitting the inside base of the post before nestling into the back of the net for 2 - 1. Players in United heard their coach's words ringing in their ears and steered their central attacks to the wings instead. Good work by the Aieie defensive line after 38 minutes produced a good counterattack chance, which cut elegantly down the middle of the pitch and found S. Biancofiore alone in front of the goal, but his shot whistled just wide. 2 - 1 was the halftime score. United claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 53 percent.

After 49 minutes Aieie tried to exploit their counterattacking skills, unfortunately, A. Di Costanzo's shot sailed wide after his break down the right. The coach of United was happy with the game so far, but still wanted to change the line up. After 56 minutes, T. Baldazzi came on for M. Scharff. K. Kmiołek left the field with a smile on his face as he was substituted 61 minutes into the game, as his team was in the lead. P. Marastoni was the replacement. After 63 minutes, the away team failed to deal with a good exchange of passes on the right, and A. Castello gave the United supporters even more to cheer about when he increased the lead to 3 - 1. P. Marastoni increased the lead for United to 4 - 1, getting a head onto a hooked ball from the right. The ball looked to have taken a deflection on the way in, but he's claiming it! The players of United now seemed to think the job was done and acted more defensively, just waiting for the ref to blow the final whistle. The crowd roared its approval when M. Severo somehow managed to block a shot which seemed to be a certain goal by Aieie's C. Durzu 69 minutes into the game. United were determined to attack on the wing and their central attempts were constantly abandoned in favour of the wings. A. Da Vinci unleashed a swerving effort from the right that the visitors' keeper did well to tip wide. United had a good opportunity to attack in the middle, but remembered their instructions to focus on wing attacks instead. United put themselves up 5 - 1 when B. Woudstra broke through on the right, leaving the entire defence trailing in his wake. The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave A. Di Costanzo from Aieie a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 81 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient! The sun seemed to put R. Pettersson in a great mood, and he showed off his technical skills all match long. Possession in this half belonged to United, who controlled the ball 52 percent of the time.

The most dominating United player was without a doubt A. Da Vinci. L. Bajević turned in a dismal performance, however. Aieie's best player was A. Segatto. F. García on the other hand, had a terrible day. The match ends 5 - 1.
