previous 4/4 next 2/4  Uniteds 0 - 2 Kilmarnock (383109359)

15100 spectators arrived at Real United's Arena, where weather conditions were pretty good for football. Zefos Christopoulakis was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Jędrek Michalski and Willian Hernandez. Uniteds had chosen a strategic 3-4-3 formation. The following players took the field: Herheim - Grasseni, Núñez, Kranzl - Germano, Larsson, Naboni, Fucà - Torre Roxas, Ibias, Schauerhammer.

Kilmarnock decided to use a 5-2-3 set up. Lineup: Buriánek - Rousson, González, Bardin, Osma, Knetsch - Pettersson, Planelles - Krikščiūnas, Pico, McFadden.

Uniteds used their ability to concentrate their attacks in the middle of the pitch, rather than on the wings. Counter-attacking seemed to be the preferred strategy of Kilmarnock. The crowd groaned its disapproval when T. Larsson missed a free kick that would have given Uniteds the lead after 33 minutes. T. Larsson was very close to giving Uniteds the lead with an ingenious free kick routine 35 minutes into the match, but the ball just grazed the bar. With the clock showing 36 minutes played, a great pass from the defensive line of Kilmarnock resulted in a counterattack that was smoothly brought under control by R. Krikščiūnas in the centre of the opposition's penalty area, but his finish went high. After 37 minutes Kilmarnock's S. McFadden contracted a slight foot injury, but didn't want to leave the game. Kilmarnock almost scored after a counterattack 40 minutes into the match, but S. McFadden took a shot from the left that landed harmlessly in the side of the net. Halftime score was 0 - 0. Uniteds enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 83 percent of possession.

Kilmarnock were great at switching from defence to attack, and after 50 minutes, R. Krikščiūnas swept through the middle on a counterattack, making the score 0 - 1. Uniteds tried to even things up by sending a long ball towards the centrally placed strikers, but the visitors' defence got the best of this rather direct style of play. S. McFadden stunned the crowd with a brilliant counterattack from the left, giving Kilmarnock the goal to make it 0 - 2. The home side worked their way through the middle and almost got one back when V. Kranzl tried to sneak the ball past the keeper. S. Buriánek was too alert for that! Uniteds had most of the ball, with 83 percent of possession.

Most important Uniteds player was B. Schauerhammer. L. Núñez on the other hand, had a terrible day. Kilmarnock's top performer was clearly F. Pico. However, J. Planelles made a disastrous appearance. The match ends 0 - 2.
