previous 5/10 next 7/10  Tafaners 4 - 0 xerezistas (383162149)

A brilliantly sunny day had enticed a crowd of 6522 to Girona. Tommi Oerlemans was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Lulart Peja and Joakim Kihllind. Tafaners decided to use a 3-5-2 set up. They fielded: Delacre - Ezcay, El-Glaoui, Mazcuñán - Rada, Thaulow, Montoya, Podkowiak, Taylor - Valea, Nimo.

xerezistas had chosen a strategic 4-4-2 formation. The following players took the field: Manso Tabernero - Aeeiman, Acella, Bide, Cardús - Paredes, de Valdeorras, Santesmasses, Gavilán - Urien, Alduan.

C. Montoya's lack of experience almost gave xerezistas a goal after 3 minutes, but the shot went right into the keeper's arms. Tafaners broke through on the left 15 minutes into the game, with I. Valea firing in from an acute angle to give the home side a 1 - 0 lead. I. Valea should probably have put his team up another goal after 18 minutes, but some great goalkeeping by S. Manso Tabernero kept the visitors in the game. xerezistas's E. Paredes refused to leave the field after injuring his achilles tendon after 22 minutes. Tafaners's I. Valea was shown a yellow card after 29 minutes for slicing down an opponent. The teams went for the halftime break at 1 - 0. Possession in this half belonged to Tafaners, who controlled the ball 69 percent of the time.

Several players seemed a little dazed by the warm weather, and were repeatedly tricked by the clever and agile I. Valea. C. Montoya could have increased the lead after 48 minutes, but his shot hit the post after a nice combination in the middle of the park. The coach of Tafaners was happy with the game so far, but still wanted to change the line up. After 55 minutes, M. Meléndez came on for I. Valea. The Tafaners players could smell victory in the air. J. Mazcuñán wasn't in a hurry to leave the field as he was substituted for D. Baladrón after 55 minutes. A magnificent combination in the middle resulted in Tafaners's V. Rada increasing the lead to 2 - 0. The fierce heat made it important to save breath, and after a few swift runs C. Montoya found it hard to get back into position. 66 minutes into the match, the visitors' central line of defence had to look on as C. Montoya broke through, making the score 3 - 0 for Tafaners. R. Taylor increased the lead for Tafaners to 4 - 0, getting a head onto a hooked ball from the right. The ball looked to have taken a deflection on the way in, but he's claiming it! A. El-Glaoui wanted to play on, but the Tafaners coach had other ideas, and he was replaced 70 minutes into the game by L. Nahon. Tafaners had most of the ball, with 65 percent of possession.

The most dominating Tafaners player was without a doubt B. Nimo. However, D. Baladrón made a disastrous appearance. Most important xerezistas player was A. Alduan. F. Acella was a disappointment, however. The match ends 4 - 0.
