previous 4/10 next 6/10  Cohibas 6 - 2 Viet cong (384262701)

It was an exceptionally sunny day for the crowd of 47494 that came out to Stoney Park. Wilhelmus van de Kerkhof was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Gunnar Bjarnason and Anders Falkstål. Cohibas started off with a 3-5-2 lineup. Lineup: Amsuess - Sánchez, Mansouri, Docq - Honkanen, Solan, Stolz, McLintock, Sánchez - Ruch, Sunesson.

A 3-5-2 alignment was the formation of choice for Viet cong. The following players took the field: Aponkus - Tate, Sibert, Ramas - Łoś, Stewarton, Blazon, Brett, Barr - Thurbrand, Garriott.

The wings were the focus of most of Viet cong's attacks today. Viet cong were determined to attack on the wing and their central attempts were constantly abandoned in favour of the wings. Viet cong's J. Brett gave the visitors a 0 - 1 lead after 10 minutes with a superb strike from the right. In an effort to secure the lead, Viet cong changed their tactic after 10 minutes. The referee showed Viet cong's M. Sibert the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. F. Mansouri was the unlucky victim and couldn't continue the game, so Cohibas's D. Riscanebo had to come off the bench. D. Riscanebo charged down the left and had a wonderful opportunity to score the equaliser for Cohibas, but the shot went well wide of the goal. The teams went for the halftime break at 0 - 1. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Cohibas, with 53 percent of the ball.

50 minutes in, and Cohibas were able to score the equalising goal to make it 1 - 1 when L. Sánchez picked up a pass coming in from the right and chipped it past the away team's keeper. Cohibas fans held their breath as M. Sunesson scampered down the left side. He successfully avoided all challenges and cracked home the shot for 2 - 1! Although the whole team were struggling to impress, Viet cong's M. Sibert was singled out as being the problem as he was called off the pitch after 57 minutes. A. Vass was given a chance to change things around. B. Tate became the new Viet cong captain. 69 minutes into the match, the visitors' central line of defence had to look on as U. Docq broke through, making the score 3 - 1 for Cohibas. The intense heat forced Ł. Łoś into making some errors because he couldn't seem to keep up with the others. After 72 minutes, B. Tate replied with a fantastic free kick and the ball went in off the bar. 3 - 2. Things were going to get worse for the visitors. D. Riscanebo squirmed through their central defence after 73 minutes, increasing the lead to 4 - 2. After 80 minutes, Viet cong switched J. Brett with A. Blunden, hoping for a quick impact on the pitch. C. Stewarton had a couple of good opportunities to reply, but the home team's keeper H. Amsuess was simply unbeatable. Several players seemed a little dazed by the warm weather, and were repeatedly tricked by the clever and agile A. Blunden. A speedy charge from the left side of the field increased the lead of Cohibas to 5 - 2 as J. Ruch finished it off competently, firing in from an acute angle. D. Garriott could've grabbed a goal for Viet cong 84 minutes in when he got a pass from the left putting him free of the home side's defence, but he was unable to take advantage of the situation. Cheers filled the stadium as M. Sunesson broke through the visitors' central defence to put away the ball to increase the lead to 6 - 2 to Cohibas. Confident in their lead, Cohibas's players relaxed and focused more on defending the lead than increasing it. Cohibas's K. McLintock had to watch the rest of the game from the sidelines, after twisting his ankle with 86 minutes having been played. S. Tayyib was the replacement. Cohibas claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 53 percent.

Cohibas's best player was T. Solan. On the other hand, H. Amsuess's play was disheartening. The most dominating Viet cong player was without a doubt R. Blazon. However, X. Barr made a disastrous appearance. The match ends 6 - 2.
