(386158912)

28-07-2012 21.30
Clear skies welcomed the 60000 spectators who had made their way to
Olympique Stadium.
Paul Böckeler was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Peter Olsson and
Gergő Bán.
LyonOlympique started off with a 3-5-2 lineup.
The following players took the field: Fortier - Lebeckas, Gough, Correia - Krook, Schneppe, Venturini, Wermuth, Schöngau - Evrov, Malecký.
UPG tactics involved an interesting 3-5-2 combination.
They fielded: Leporini - Boon, Berger, Streflik - Parkkinen, Werner, El Fakiri, Håkansson, Karbonade - Beretta, Luthuli.
A. Lebeckas gave LyonOlympique the lead as he successfully challenged the guests' central defenders, then slotted the ball into the bottom corner, giving the keeper no chance. 1 - 0
A well-executed free kick by
R. Malecký after 19 minutes made it 2 - 0 for LyonOlympique.
At this point, it was obvious that the players of LyonOlympique lowered the tempo and became more defensively oriented.
Cheers filled the stadium as
J. Schöngau broke through the visitors' central defence to put away the ball to increase the lead to 3 - 0 to LyonOlympique.
P. Evrov should probably have put his team up another goal after 26 minutes, but some great goalkeeping by
N. Leporini kept the visitors in the game.
F. Correia of LyonOlympique was booked for kicking the ball away after the whistle.
UPG's right side looked dangerous after 31 minutes, as
M. Beretta broke through.
P. Fortier continued to stifle them, however, as he made the save look easy.
A counterattack by LyonOlympique after 32 minutes could have resulted in a goal, but
H. Schneppe, coming in on the left, couldn't get the shot off.
B. El Fakiri sailed high above the opponents as he headed in a corner kick from
V. Karbonade after 33 minutes of play, making the score 3 - 1.
Given a free kick close to the byline, LyonOlympique tried a move that loyal fans may recognise from training. A pass to the side pulled the defence out of position which let
F. Correia slip through on goal. He didn't have to break his stride, and slipped the ball past the keeper to make it 4 - 1, 36 minutes into the game.
UPG's
P. Streflik refused to leave the field after injuring his achilles tendon after 38 minutes.
4 - 1 was the score after the first half.
LyonOlympique enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 59 percent of possession.
A magnificent combination in the middle resulted in LyonOlympique's
D. Venturini increasing the lead to 5 - 1.
With 68 minutes played,
H. Parkkinen of UPG fell dramatically just outside the penalty area. However, the referee was unimpressed, and booked him for diving.
P. Håkansson nearly reduced the lead 70 minutes into the game, but a splendid one-handed save by
P. Fortier prevented the attempt coming in from the right flank from hitting the back of the net.
79 minutes into the game, UPG's attack got through on the right, but
B. El Fakiri couldn't handle the ball and his feeble kick wound up in the keeper's arms.
LyonOlympique had most of the ball, with 56 percent of possession.
LyonOlympique's top performer was clearly
R. Malecký.
On the other hand,
T. Krook's play was disheartening.
Most important UPG player was
H. Parkkinen.
However,
P. Håkansson made a disastrous appearance.
The match ends 5 - 1.
