16949 fans braved the pouring rain at
Boys from the nil Arena.
Davut Emek was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Šimun Tikvicki and
Diego Machirán.
A 5-3-2 alignment was the formation of choice for Boys.
The following players took the field: Tang - Pulska, Zylmans, Bidner, Powałowski, Bannier - Natov, Rainer, Álvarez Cabiro - Krainz, Holblad.
Kulmhof decided to use a 4-4-2 set up.
Lineup: Kapferer - Steiner, Engelhart, Gassler, Linder - Hein, Chen, Schindler, Stockinger - Schatz, Baumann.
The boggy pitch disrupted the game, especially for technical players like
S. Powałowski.
The visitors' central defence should have had no trouble clearing the pass to
A. Krainz, but the Boys player managed to shrug them off and fired a low shot past the keeper to give his team the lead. 1 - 0!
T. Andersson was called on to replace Boys's
T. Zylmans after 22 minutes following a nasty collision.
Things were deteriorating for the away team as Boys scored another to make it 2 - 0 after a left side attack resulted in a goal for
J. Holblad after 23 minutes.
Boys's
V. Natov increased the lead to 3 - 0, after he saw his shot go between the legs of the advancing goalkeeper following some good play down the right wing after 30 minutes.
T. Andersson behaved like an inexperienced youth player after 32 minutes as he gave the ball away to
F. Schatz. Lucky for him though, there was no goal.
With 35 minutes played, Boys put themselves up 4 - 0 when the visiting defenders lost the ball to
A. Krainz, who came up from the left and proceeded to coolly round the keeper and knock the ball home.
At this point, it was obvious that the players of Boys lowered the tempo and became more defensively oriented.
Boys's
A. Krainz struck his penalty well enough to beat the goalkeeper and extend the home team's lead to 5 - 0 after 36 minutes.
That made three goals for
A. Krainz and he was marked down for the hat trick.
The teams went for the halftime break at 5 - 0.
Boys had most of the ball, with 81 percent of possession.
Boys increased the lead as
J. Álvarez Cabiro struck to make the score 6 - 0 after an attack from the left left him unmarked in front of the keeper.
A speedy charge from the left side of the field increased the lead of Boys to 7 - 0 as
V. Natov finished it off competently, firing in from an acute angle.
After 65 minutes,
A. Rainer put Boys ahead 8 - 0 when he rose to head in a cross from the right wing.
The Boys free kick 73 minutes into the match seemed wasted, as the shot was both short and off target. But was this actually a plan? The ball landed at the feet of
V. Natov, who was completely unmarked in the box. That's 9 - 0!
That was his third goal of the match - a hat trick for
V. Natov.
After 78 minutes Boys's
A. Krainz contracted a slight foot injury, but didn't want to leave the game.
J. Álvarez Cabiro unleashed a swerving effort from the right that the visitors' keeper did well to tip wide.
After several obvious shirt pulling incidents,
G. Bidner got himself booked. The manager of Boys was not happy.
Possession in this half belonged to Boys, who controlled the ball 84 percent of the time.
Boys's best player was
G. Bidner.
However,
T. Andersson made a disastrous appearance.
Kulmhof's top performer was clearly
J. Baumann.
On the other hand,
F. Schatz's play was disheartening.
The match ends 9 - 0.
