(390054506)

29-07-2012 18.00
Clouds darkened the skies at
Lofthouse Stadium as 56697 spectators turned up for the match.
Gustaw Boruch was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Hans Züfle and
Zdeněk Janošík.
A 4-5-1 alignment was the formation of choice for Wanderers.
The following players had been chosen: Turner - Kubišta, Buurstee, Reşik, Vicens - Cummins, Pappalardo, Tyyskä, Ratcliff, Petrov - Szermowski.
Green decided to use a 2-5-3 set up.
Lineup: Hiraki - Peters, Izmendi - Frahm, Di Pierno, Spanidis, Lanzoni, Marzewski - Szok, Rocamora, Åhén.
Wanderers's
E. Szermowski tried to break through in the middle repeatedly, but couldn't get past the visitors' defenders.
A. Lanzoni received some harsh words from his coach after he acted foolishly 37 minutes into the match, probably out of lack of experience, and almost let an opponent score.
J. Szok had a good opportunity to give Green the lead as he charged down the right and struck the ball towards the top corner, but the home team's goalkeeper made the save.
After 42 minutes,
J. Peters sent the corner kick right to
I. Izmendi who headed it sharply past the keeper. 0 - 1!
After 43 minutes,
R. Petrov made a dash down the middle past the away team's defenders to score the goal that made it 1 - 1.
Green's
B. Frahm managed to lose the defenders as he advanced down the right wing and scored, putting the visitors ahead after 44 minutes. 1 - 2.
Green's
J. Marzewski was dominating his wing and kept sending fine balls into the opposition's box -
X. Rocamora managed to volley one of them into the net to make it 1 - 3 after 44 minutes.
Confident in their lead, Green's players relaxed and focused more on defending the lead than increasing it.
1 - 3 was the score after the first half.
Possession in this half belonged to Wanderers, who controlled the ball 51 percent of the time.
Wanderers didn't give in and with 70 minutes played
D. Kubišta was able to make the score 2 - 3 after an attack on the right.
Wanderers's
E. Szermowski made a successful breakthrough on the left after 81 minutes and should have levelled the score, but instead he clipped it over the bar.
82 minutes into the match, the speedy
J. Szok easily outpaced
V. Buurstee, chipped the keeper and made the score 2 - 4.
Green claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 51 percent.
Most important Wanderers player was
T. Tyyskä.
On the other hand,
F. Vicens's play was disheartening.
Green's top performer was clearly
K. Åhén.
B. Frahm was a disappointment, however.
The match ends 2 - 4.
