Clear skies welcomed the 24619 spectators who had made their way to
Lords.
Dariusz Wyciślik was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Ivan Babin and
Cecil Vanderhaegen.
All of
London was shut down for the day, as fans of both clubs came to the derby.
Short had chosen a strategic 3-4-3 formation.
The following players took the field: Mayo - Grondin, Päivähonka, Bárcena - Baciocchi, van Ede, Akartuna, Baldry - Virecci fano, van Rij, Hopia.
KILLKITTIES started off with a 3-5-2 lineup.
They fielded: Casagrande - van Holland, Liwiński, Jürgensen - McCormick, Eschler, Tudares, Koutsomitras, Della Cella - Mellish-Clark, Matthews.
KILLKITTIES clearly had decided to counter-attack when they could.
4 minutes of the match played, and a comedy of errors by the home side gave the visitors a chance at the lead, but
K. McCormick, after finding himself dashing down on goal from the left with only the keeper to beat, sliced his shot horribly wide.
The guests almost went up by a goal after 14 minutes when
N. Tudares came through and shot from the right. The ball bounced harmlessly off the post, though.
After 16 minutes of play,
M. van Rij gave the home team a 1 - 0 lead after an attack coming in from the right.
The visitors didn't give in and, after 17 minutes,
R. Eschler got through the home side's central line of defence, rolling in the equaliser to make it 1 - 1.
The home side put themselves ahead 2 - 1 after 22 minutes courtesy of a breakthrough from
T. Akartuna, who scored with a stunning volley following a cross from the right wing.
S. Bárcena increased the lead for Short to 3 - 1, getting a head onto a hooked ball from the right. The ball looked to have taken a deflection on the way in, but he's claiming it!
It was 3 - 1 at the break.
Short enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 53 percent of possession.
The visitors' right side was dangerous today;
P. Matthews made the home team's keeper look foolish as he easily reduced the lead to make it 3 - 2 54 minutes into the match.
The home side's
M. van Rij came close to extending the lead 57 minutes into the game. His shot came in from the right hand side but
A. Casagrande managed to save it with an unbelievable reaction stop.
KILLKITTIES's right side looked dangerous 77 minutes in, but
N. Mayo made a good save on
R. Eschler's hard shot to the top corner.
P. Matthews made a run for the goal 82 minutes into the game but the home team's left back managed to sort the situation out in the end.
Short's
S. Bárcena struck his penalty well enough to beat the goalkeeper and extend the home team's lead to 4 - 2 after 83 minutes.
84 minutes in,
K. McCormick made an incredible run up the middle and nearly reduced the home side's lead, but
N. Mayo refused to let the ball slip by him.
Possession in this half belonged to KILLKITTIES, who controlled the ball 52 percent of the time.
Short's best player was
L. Virecci fano.
N. Mayo on the other hand, had a terrible day.
Most important KILLKITTIES player was
N. Tudares.
M. Mellish-Clark turned in a dismal performance, however.
The match ends 4 - 2.
