previous 2/10 next 4/10  Blunting 2 - 3 Toffee (390058701)

Due to an all-day shower, 20000 paying spectators got to see a match on a pitch-turned-bog at Shooting Star. Teodor Trautmann was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Leif Mellund and Bert Kullmann. Blunting decided to use a 3-5-2 set up. Starters: Friggieri - Durich, Kuchniak, van Arum - Chardon, Kappe, Biçe, Oppum, Paltrow - Rintakuusi, De Maddalena.

Toffee had chosen a strategic 4-5-1 formation. Lineup: Ben Khalfallah - Šušić, Lee Mark, Bustos, Karabatak - Łukasik, Nuttall, Khan, Roncali, Edmunds - Petter.

Pressing was the tactic of the day for Toffee. Blunting's B. Kuchniak placed the ball right at his teammate's feet after a corner, but H. Oppum couldn't finish. Toffee's ability to press all over the field frequently paid dividends. After 28 minutes, Toffee sent a free kick in high over the penalty box. In what looked like a well-rehearsed move, the ball was headed backwards and reached J. Edmunds, who had plenty of space to place a well aimed shot - 0 - 1. Blunting had a great opportunity to score following a counterattack after 31 minutes, but H. Oppum's shot from the left sailed high over the bar. Blunting's E. Chardon put his head to a well placed ball, lifted in from the left, and scored to make the score 1 - 1 with 39 minutes showing on the scoreboard clock. The referee showed Blunting's O. Biçe the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. R. Durich was struggling to make the ball dance with his usual trickery and panache, and the opposing players had little trouble shutting him down in these muddy conditions. Some quick footwork on the left side of the field 43 minutes into the match left Toffee's D. Khan completely free to score. 1 - 2 for the visitors. 1 - 2 was the halftime score. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Blunting, with 62 percent of the ball.

J. Edmunds finished off the counterattack of Toffee from the left rather easily, making the score 1 - 3. Confident in their lead, Toffee's players relaxed and focused more on defending the lead than increasing it. Toffee's talent at pressing frustrated the spectators as the game became a dire midfield struggle. J. Lee Mark slipped and slithered in the wet grass. His usual rapid runs were nowhere to be seen today. 85 minutes into the match, Blunting's N. Kappe collected a ball sent down the right and put it in the back of the net, narrowing the score to 2 - 3. E. Šušić of Toffee was booked for kicking the ball away after the whistle. Toffee pressed their opponents, causing the game to be a bit of a stalemate at times. Blunting enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 66 percent of possession.

The most dominating Blunting player was without a doubt P. van Arum. S. Friggieri on the other hand, had a terrible day. Most important Toffee player was S. Nuttall. On the other hand, C. Roncali's play was disheartening. The match ends 2 - 3.
