Fairly good weather for football had drawn a crowd of 26935 to
Selly Park.
Kaare Nielsen was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Alfonso Hermoso de Mendoza and
Simo Voivalin.
A 3-5-2 alignment was the formation of choice for B.U.M.M.E.R.S.
They fielded: Sensat - Marcoen, Mihai, Zetterwald - Brent, Izzo, Clarke, Bell, Judge - Maravilha, Langford.
Tschibi had chosen a strategic 3-5-2 formation.
The following players had been chosen: Barwik - Meirinho, Martinkari, Detmold - Sonderhausen, Bravo, Ronchetti, Omilade, Robmann - Kakouriotis, Tuomola.
Using their counter-attacking abilities was the strategy of choice for B.U.M.M.E.R.S.
Tschibi demonstrated their creative tactics on the field.
After a fine move down the middle
D. Brent nearly gave the home side a goal after 2 minutes. However the finishing shot went just wide.
K. Judge gave B.U.M.M.E.R.S the lead as he successfully challenged the guests' central defenders, then slotted the ball into the bottom corner, giving the keeper no chance. 1 - 0
Cheers filled the stadium as
C. Langford broke through the visitors' central defence to put away the ball to increase the lead to 2 - 0 to B.U.M.M.E.R.S.
38 minutes into the match, Tschibi replied and reduced the lead to 2 - 1.
J. Tuomola scored on a marvellous cross pass coming in from the left.
Halftime score was 2 - 1.
B.U.M.M.E.R.S claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 55 percent.
C. Langford increased the lead for B.U.M.M.E.R.S to 3 - 1, getting a head onto a hooked ball from the right. The ball looked to have taken a deflection on the way in, but he's claiming it!
D. Brent had a fantastic opportunity to put B.U.M.M.E.R.S up another goal 51 minutes into the match, but he fired just over the crossbar.
After 52 minutes, a couple of quick and successful challenges followed by a shot from just outside the penalty area by
D. Marcoen might have resulted in another goal for B.U.M.M.E.R.S. However,
L. Barwik made a spectacular save.
Almost all the way down to the corner flag, B.U.M.M.E.R.S's
D. Brent somehow managed to get a perfect pass into the middle, impossible to miss for
C. Langford, who struck for 4 - 1.
At that,
C. Langford was noted down for a hat trick!
By now, the players in B.U.M.M.E.R.S felt that victory was guaranteed and began to play it safe, focusing on defence and not risking too much going forward.
A. Mihai could have put B.U.M.M.E.R.S up one more, but he fired into the side netting after breaking free on the left after 61 minutes.
63 minutes in,
M. Ronchetti made an incredible run up the middle and nearly reduced the home side's lead, but
P. Sensat refused to let the ball slip by him.
Tschibi managed to reduce the score to 4 - 2 as
W. Detmold finished off a well-played combination from the left, easily carving through the defence.
Tschibi's
W. Detmold was shown a yellow card for standing over the ball and blocking an opponent's quick free kick after 76 minutes.
B.U.M.M.E.R.S enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 54 percent of possession.
B.U.M.M.E.R.S's best player was
C. Langford.
P. Sensat on the other hand, had a terrible day.
Tschibi's top performer was clearly
J. Tuomola.
However,
W. Detmold made a disastrous appearance.
