30000 spectators had come to
Arena de Li Mejo this cloudy day.
Thorbjørn Jansen was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Téo Desbiens and
Stefan Vasile.
Mortè started off with a 3-5-2 lineup.
They fielded: Sarpkoç - Keck, Kolnik, Cid - Bour, Meidinger, Olah, Zenzola, Garcia - Nabijevas, Baumann.
Vassili decided to use a 3-5-2 set up.
Lineup: Senzanonna - Provenzano, Vorwerk, Gozzi - Griffa, Bastiaans, Klishch, Marian, Girardin - Dräxler, Rosi.
G. Rosi caught everyone off guard with a great opening pass - but unfortunately
V. Griffa was as surprised by the move as anybody else, and managed to miss the extraordinary opportunity.
After 18 minutes, Vassili's
L. Dräxler made his way through the middle and nonchalantly placed the ball out of the keeper's reach, putting the visitors up 0 - 1.
The visitors'
L. Marian took advantage of a misunderstanding between the home side's goalie and centre backs 26 minutes into the match. 0 - 2 for Vassili.
With 33 minutes played, seemingly due to lack of experience,
I. Klishch needlessly tripped an opponent just outside the penalty area, but the free kick that followed didn't succeed.
The visitors nearly scored again after 33 minutes, but a superb save by
A. Sarpkoç kept
A. Gozzi's free kick out of the net.
Mortè's counterattack was impressive and was only stopped by a shocking foul. Somehow, the referee's cards remained in his pocket - a terrible decision!
B. Baumann's resulting free kick was easily saved by the keeper.
43 minutes into the match,
G. Vorwerk came through the middle and almost added to his team's lead, but the shot went wide.
After 44 minutes a combination in the middle resulted in a through ball for
I. Klishch who increased Vassili's lead to 0 - 3.
Halftime score was 0 - 3.
Possession in this half belonged to Vassili, who controlled the ball 69 percent of the time.
The coach of Vassili was happy with the game so far, but still wanted to change the line up. After 52 minutes,
M. Giglio came on for
L. Dräxler.
G. Rosi increased the visitors' lead by putting a volley away after a pass from the right. 0 - 4.
Mortè needed a fresh pair of legs on the field, and after 68 minutes
Ò. Cid made way for
N. Friemann.
Unhappy with the result so far in the game, the Mortè manager used a brief break in play after 68 minutes to give the players new directives.
The Mortè coach was desperate to reverse his team's fortunes in the game, and ordered his team to change strategy.
Vassili increased their lead after 68 minutes when
I. Klishch broke through on the right, upping the score to 0 - 5, much to the home crowd's dismay.
Vassili's
M. Bastiaans left the field after 69 minutes because of a nasty blow to the shin. His replacement was
G. Cominelli.
Vassili had most of the ball, with 71 percent of possession.
N. Friemann performed admirably for Mortè.
However,
L. Meidinger made a disastrous appearance.
Vassili's best player was
M. Giglio.
P. Girardin was a disappointment, however.
The match ends 0 - 5.
