previous 4/10 next 6/10  Jackets 0 - 0 Schwechat (393197375)

Dark skies made the crowd of 1166 at Bluefield Road a little nervous, but the rain held off. Chandler Hutton was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Moni Muijlaert and Bernd-Detlef Ihssen. Jackets had chosen a strategic 5-4-1 formation. The following players had been chosen: von Petzold - Ernstsen, Dialektos, Sompolski, Agloupas, Wianecki - Ticozzi, Mandese, Suciu, Fröhlich - Hackl.

Schwechat decided to use a 5-3-2 set up. They fielded: Rovira - Chinga, Larizza, Hinkkanen, Melena, Pereda - Rätzsch, Ryfa, Wagner - Neumann, Schwarzer.

Jackets were relying on their ability to counter-attack. For their match strategy, Schwechat had decided to use their ability to counter-attack whenever possible. 32 minutes in, Jackets's G. Ticozzi received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first. A. Melena was the unlucky victim and couldn't continue the game, so Schwechat's M. Bergmann had to come off the bench. Schwechat had to make a substitution after 35 minutes. T. Larizza limped off the field and was replaced by R. Raith. With the clock showing 37 minutes played, a great pass from the defensive line of Schwechat resulted in a counterattack that was smoothly brought under control by E. Ryfa in the centre of the opposition's penalty area, but his finish went high. The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave S. Agloupas from Jackets a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 40 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient! 0 - 0 was the score after the first half. Jackets claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 64 percent.

After 47 minutes, there was a bit of a mixup on the field as Schwechat found themselves out of position and their organisation level dropped to passable. T. Mandese rose like a salmon, and was very close to scoring with a header after a corner, but sent the ball just over the bar. Schwechat's H. Wagner was shown a yellow card after 76 minutes for slicing down an opponent. After 86 minutes a well-practised indirect free kick routine by Jackets was easily anticipated by the defenders. The players forward were so well marked, they were left with few viable options. Schwechat almost scored after a counterattack 87 minutes into the match, but F. Pereda took a shot from the left that landed harmlessly in the side of the net. Jackets had most of the ball, with 65 percent of possession.

Jackets's top performer was clearly R. Sompolski. On the other hand, K. von Petzold's play was disheartening. The most dominating Schwechat player was without a doubt E. Ryfa. M. Bergmann on the other hand, had a terrible day. The match ends 0 - 0.
