Clear skies welcomed the 633 spectators who had made their way to
montouto park.
Patrik P. Flinkmar was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Esmundo Cáceres and
Luca Bissola.
caxoto tactics involved an interesting 2-5-3 combination.
Starters: Tinti - Colaço, Kozma - Kerker, Coimbra, van Vreeswijk, Forroll, Iglesias - Hämmig, Muchnik, Ferrer.
Canape had chosen a strategic 5-3-2 formation.
Lineup: Brás - Flåten, de Armas, Costea, Gorduaz, Schwanitz - Ganeroso, Utrera, van Buren - Gyllenstrand, Gabikagojeaskoa.
It was obvious that caxoto were using their pressing skill as their primary tactic.
Canape were relying on their ability to counter-attack.
caxoto's talent at pressing frustrated the spectators as the game became a dire midfield struggle.
38 minutes into the game, Canape's
J. Schwanitz missed an opportunity to score the leading goal from a penalty when he delivered the shot straight into the keeper's hands.
With 40 minutes played, the visitors broke through on the right after some poor defending.
B. van Buren put the ball away for 0 - 1.
After the ball was lifted in from the left,
V. Flåten was on his own in the home side's penalty area and should have scored after 43 minutes, but missed, probably due to lack of concentration.
Canape's
O. Costea lived up to his reputation for finding unexpected ways to get the ball in the net when he sent a nifty little pass over to
L. Gyllenstrand who finished for 0 - 2 with 44 minutes of the match played.
The teams went for the halftime break at 0 - 2.
Canape had most of the ball, with 54 percent of possession.
The home crowd were delighted when
L. Muchnik scored with a header after an attack from the right, making the score 1 - 2. But did he use his hand? That'll be one for the pundits to talk about after the game, that's for sure!
caxoto needed a fresh pair of legs on the field, and after 64 minutes
L. Muchnik made way for
O. Leitenbauer.
A well placed corner kick from
J. Schwanitz was followed by
S. de Armas's hard but accurate header. The well executed routine resulted in a goal for Canape, the score now 1 - 3.
The visitors'
L. Gyllenstrand took advantage of a misunderstanding between the home side's goalie and centre backs 70 minutes into the match. 1 - 4 for Canape.
At this point, it was obvious that the players of Canape lowered the tempo and became more defensively oriented.
With 87 minutes on the clock,
M. Colaço surprised the guests' goalkeeper with a snappy free kick, which reduced their lead to 2 - 4.
This part of the game was a standoff between the teams in terms of possession.
The most dominating caxoto player was without a doubt
J. Forroll.
D. Hämmig turned in a dismal performance, however.
Canape's best player was
N. Ganeroso.
A. Brás on the other hand, had a terrible day.
The match ends 2 - 4.
