At this point, it was obvious that the players of Steaua lowered the tempo and became more defensively oriented. 43 minutes into the match, Steaua's C. Niemegeerts was badly injured by a couple of strong tackles after 62 minutes, Serpientes fans were unhappy to discover that it was not possible to make a substitution. The home side worked their way through the middle and almost got one back when F. Duflos tried to sneak the ball past the keeper. G. D'Angelo was too alert for that! With the clock showing 75 minutes played, a great pass from the defensive line of Steaua resulted in a counterattack that was smoothly brought under control by R. Popa in the centre of the opposition's penalty area, but his finish went high. The home side worked hard to get through the middle and as a result, had a good chance of getting one back as G. Groppo tried lifting the ball over keeper G. D'Angelo. Unfortunately, the ball went just over the bar. S. Buzincu of Steaua was booked for kicking the ball away after the whistle. Possession in this half belonged to Steaua, who controlled the ball 55 percent of the time.
