CHPP 2.0 and Now?

November 8th, 2010 saw the relaunch of the CHPP network after several years of closing. This launch was anticipated by a lot of users and developers but what has been done since this date? What still needs to be done? Let's have a look to this ecosystem.

Little reminder about what is CHPP
Hattrick allows CHPP developers to receive data from the game to be used in others websites or others programs other than Hattrick itself. In a result, some people develop software which use these data, and provide rich features to enhance the Hattrick experience. These programs are called CHPP products and may be used by any Hattrick user.

What's new for CHPP 2.0
CHPP rules were updated, allowing developers to create new kinds of applications with less restrictions than before, and with more features using new provided data. First of all, mobile apps are now allowed, and another big improvement is the ability to arrange friendly match outside Hattrick website.

A lot of new applications
With the reopen of CHPP, users started to develop new software quickly and some applications were published during last months. You are now being able to see a lot of your team data on your iPhone or Android devices. Many developers choose mobile platform, it has been requested for a long time, and the choice to open this possibility was not vain!

How to find the best products?
Hattrick website provides the full list of certified CHPP products, you can browse it here: (/Community/CHPP/ChppPrograms.aspx) Too many apps? Just look at filters on the page to find your needs. Programs are organized in different topics and are tagged by feature, platform, language and country. Today you can find products to manage your club and players (/Community/CHPP/ChppPrograms.aspx?ProgramTypeId=1), if you want to see your matches better than HTLive you got some match viewers (/Community/CHPP/ChppPrograms.aspx?ProgramTypeId=491) and you can also have products to bet on matches (/Community/CHPP/ChppPrograms.aspx?ProgramTypeId=494), in fact for each need "there's an app for that" :)
Every user can evaluate each product with a note from 1 to 5 (5 is the best), try apps and give your rating, it will help others to know if a product is good to use.

Secure authentication
CHPP products can access your Hattrick data but not without your explicit agreement. Old products use an authentication system commonly called "security code". Because you have to log in with your hattrick username and a password called security code which allow the product to get a read only access to your data. This old system will stop working by end of June and products which still use it will stop working. The new way to authorize a product is called "OAuth". With OAuth you don't login in the product itself, you have to do it on Hattrick server. With this new way of login, using your hattrick login and password, it's more secure to login as it's only done on Hattrick and the product never knows your password as it's never send to the product. The product receives a token which is used to authenticate you. Moreover, you can revoke an access at any time for any product, just go to your Hattrick preferences (/MyHattrick/Preferences/ExternalAccessGrants.aspx) and you can revoke the token (Of course, you can't use the product without token, so no need to revoke token for programs you use)

Some stats
Today more than 300.000 tokens are active through all CHPP products. Of course a user can have several active token, one by app, but compared to the number of user, we can say CHPP products are used by a lot of people and CHPP is a great part of the game. We got around 1500 registered developers, not all are active, but a lot are... because there are 235 published applications and 243 under development! I hope new great programs are released within next few months :) Even if a lot of things are allowed, we have refused some requests, but we refused less than 30 demands since relaunch, as you see CHPP is very open!

And now, what's next?
CHPP developers can invent a lot of things, but they are limited by data offered by HTs. With CHPP 2.0 a lot of new things were added (challenge, flags, hall of fame, achievement, ...) but there are some others needs that are not yet available, the most awaiting is the youth academy.
Developers also wrote a long list of requests, the ball is in HT court :)
Today, I have no information nor date about a release of such data, but as HTs already said, it will be available... I know that a lot of you think "it's been too long" but as we say in my country, the longer it takes, the better it is :) However, after relaunch, new things were and are still added or fixed, CHPP is definitively alive!

Everyone can participate
CHPP products are developed by people who has programming skills, but it's not always the same people who have the best ideas. If you have ideas, concepts, needs, ... feel free to talk about on forums (don't forget to respect forums rules, ask moderators to know how to proceed), create discussions, I'm sure some developers will read it and someone will implement best ideas and makes Hattrick more fun to play!
