Cheers to Bostonshire!
BigRon1979 defeated former NT manager & Prem title contender Malk77's TPUV in the cup last week, and this week, as the lowest ranked survivor faces FC Nowhere Man. Bostonshire is clearly a team on the up, and we have managed to nab an exclusive interview with the gaffer.
1 Your team, Bostonshire FC, is facing Premiership side FC Nowhere Man in the cup on Tuesday. How does it feel?
Meh, it’s a bit of a comedown to be honest. I was playing the Premiership leader last round after all. It definitely vindicates my decision to relegate out of a strong IV into a weak V so I can act like a hooligan in the cup. I hope to progress again.
2 What is your favourite tune of 2014 so far, please also provide a link to vimeo/utube/soundcloud for us to listen?
Gangnam Style. (http://vimeo.com/54178821) OK, I know it’s from 2012, but that’s all I’ve been listening to since then. I don’t know any tunes that have been released this year.
3 You took over your team on 19/08/10 and you have never made it past R4 until last season when you made R7, so it looks like you've started to make sustainable progress. How did you find hattrick, and what have you learned that might help other managers who also have young teams?
I was introduced to Hattrick by a couple of mates (BrixtonBlade (7580), CaptainSmithy (954037)) and was persuaded to build a long-term training plan around a monster YA graduate (Liam Plowman (332515859)). That plan is reaching its final stage, so my team should reach full strength in around 2 seasons. Tips for new managers – multiskill your players and midfield is [still] king.
4 How much is a pint of beer in your local & what's your usual tipple?
I live in London so beer is anything from £3-6. I’ll drink anything.
5 The England community voted in Darth Hansen to be our National Team manager. He's the first ever non-English based manager to ever get the job. Under his tenure England are currently amongst the top 4 in a tightly contested Group 5. Did you vote, and how do you think we'll do in this tournament?
I didn’t vote and don’t have any interest in the national team. That said, I’ve followed World Cup qualification this time round as I know Darth Hansen from the GMC Fed. Darth is sharp and has been very successful, so he’s got as good a chance of qualifying as anyone.
6 What skill are you training at the moment and why?
I’m training Short Passing. It’s stage 2 of my long-term training plan, which is PM>Passing>Scoring. The intention is to build a load of triple Titanic XDFs and take over the world. Watch this space!
7 You currently have platinum supporter, with a second team in Germany. What were you thinking? Is platinum something you will continue to fund at the revised prices?
I wanted to experiment with different training but without affecting my main team, and wanted to see what another community was like. Continuing with platinum? Not sure. The only reason I would is that I don’t want to lose my second team.
8 According to our internet research, Bostonshire has something to do with Guiseley. Or Brighton and Hove Albion. Or Boston. Can you explain what the hell is going on and the significance of the flag you're using as a club logo?
What? It’s a county in the east of England. Some people call it Lincolnshire. The club logo is me reclaiming the county flag for Bostonshire.
9 Tell us how you met your OH (or last 'conquest' if single)?
Short story: I was showing off on a snowboard. She bought me beer.
10 What was your favourite movie of 2013?
Alpha Papa all the way. (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0469021/)
