Interview with DarioDalglish, Winner of the Jason Ivy Cup

An interview with DarioDalglish (7157439), manager of Livercrewe Tigers (59316), who has just won the inaugural Jason Ivy Cup.

1. Looking at your team name and user name it's obvious that you're Crewe and Liverpool supporter, but where does the Tigers part come from?
Well we're no pussy cats!

2. After being knocked out of the English Cup in round 4 you were parachuted into the Jason Ivy Cup. At that stage did you expect to reach the final?
Not a scooby - was still licking my wounds from going out so early to even consider my chances. To be honest I'd kind of forgotten there were any more cups!

3. In the quarter final of the Jason Ivy Cup (498013826) you were up against one of the best managers in Hattrick. How pleasing was it to win through?
He's not achieved anything yet and past managers lives don't count! It was good to get the upper hand but really we weren't on a level playing field which I blame on the amateurish hosts!

4. In the final (498258214) you played Mighty Rising Kings of Northern Glory (60552) from V. What were your thoughts going into the match?
Honestly, that I couldn't afford any more injuries if I wanted to avoid the play-offs in the league. Of course you also have to be wary of sides changing things up in crucial matches. I thought a CA was coming but to be honest I didn't know how good it might be.

5. You have won a Challenger Cup now, but do you have any ambitions to win bigger prizes? In particular, do you think you have a chance of reaching the Premiership next season?
My main goal was to achieve progression each season and eventually to break into the EPL. The core players in my side have been with me for over 10 seasons and have reached their peak so there really isn't a better time to press on even if competition is tough! With a bit better luck next season we could be right in the mix.

6. You joined Hattrick in October 2007. How did you hear about it?
A friend (988023) introduced me to it. At first I didn't really pay it any attention but when I broke into division V for the first time I began to see the fun in it and at the end of that season decided to pay it some attention!

7. You run a youth academy. Do you enjoy that?
The little blighters don't bring much moolah in any more! I enjoyed it more when I could integrate them in to the senior side and those days are beginning to come back. I would like to train one through the international sides but in some respects that needs a fair bit of luck.

8. Some of your players have represented England at international level. Is that side of the game something that you are keen on? Do you have any desire to become England manager one day?
Funny you should mention that! It was more appealing when I was a supporter and had a bit more time for it. I guess my interest really peaked when I had players in and around the squads but as they've gone on training for club football has probably taken them away from the national side. I couldn't see myself being manager - not enough time or talent!

9. If your team had a song to run out to (maybe it does!), what would it be? And while we're on the subject of music, what album would you want on a desert island if you could only take one?
Tough one, at the moment I think Ransom by Pendulum would be a decent heart starter. I've given this way too much thought and still not come to a satisfactory answer but I think I would take to the island Abandon Ship by Knife Party to get better acquainted with it!

10. Are there any managers in Hattrick that you particularly admire or despise? Why?
Apart from myself (that's both love and loathe!). I don't despise any other managers. There's a few I've had the privilege to chat to both in England and abroad - nice people as well as good managers - the one I want to mention is Si (4994900) who gave me a lot of his time over the years and I know I'm not the only beneficiary.

11. How many hours a week do you spend on Hattrick?
How many hours are in a week! Probably 3-4 (that's hours I play rather than hours in a week!).

12. When did you last kick a football?
Last weekend in wellies!

13. What tips would you give a newbie manager?
Think about what you want from your team before you start building it and don't hoard if you want any of your achievements to be respected!

14. Describe the footwear that you are currently wearing.
Yellow homer head slippers - your feet go in his mouth naturally.

15. What skill are you currently training and what stamina percentage are you currently using and why?
Set pieces on 30% stamina because I forgot to change my line-up for the friendly - managerial skills! Have actually reached a plateau with pm training and considering a long-term switch to a more sustainable training type to avoid a boom and bust hattrick existence.

16. Please tell us how/where you met your other half (or last conquest), and how he/she feels about your hattrick addiction?
At school! (disclaimer - we were both of school going age (further disclaimer - we were in the same year at school)). Used to bother her a bit but now I mainly game away from home so to speak!

17. What's your favourite drink? And where would be the ideal place to drink it?
A cool tiger (!) beer probably in Monaco on Formula 1 weekend.

18. You've fallen down a manhole into a sewer. (Don't panic! You haven't really – this is just theoretical. Unless it's suddenly gone dark where you are. And there is a funny smell.) There is no way out and you will have to spend the rest of your life down there. Luckily you have a backlit e-reader with you. What book(s) would you read?
Would there be books down there just in case this happened?! Would lord of the rings give me a shout of being able to climb out? I guess I'd read biographies because there's nothing better than realising most of the famous people out there are actually no better (or worse) than you are, just different.

19. What question should I have asked you that I haven't?
How many more questions could I have squeezed in before reaching the "cliff"?
