English Cup Round 10

Press interview with Limey of Linden FC.

Your team, Linden FC knocked out Premiership legends The Red Flag Flies at Dawn... in the last round (R9) (540916118). You played 3-5-2 lost an excellent form IM early on to injury and had 48-47% possession, but you got away with it?

Yep, I conceded the 1st goal after just 5 minutes, and then lost a good IM to injury after just 7 minutes. At that point you could say I wasn't thinking it was going to be my day.

Oh, how wrong I was.

You took charge of your team on 30/01/09, and have previously made it as far as R7 (s52 & s54) using a team predominantly made up of home grown talent. How is that working out for you, pulling some useful looking quicks can't have hurt?

I didn't seem to be getting very far building a squad using the transfer market, then I pulled a Goalkeeper from my youth team, Peter Wright (336220562), who won a few U20 caps. That seemed like a good starting point to begin building an all home grown squad, which I was doing mainly for fun rather than as a way to become more competitive. I started before the home grown bonus even came into play, but after it was announced I was keen to discover how far I could develop my squad before they begin aging and leading to a need to start the cycle again. Peter Wright is still only 29 and 51 days as I type this.

The only Linden in Cumbria we could find outside hattrick was a recording studio in Penrith. Isn't that an odd choice of place for a training ground?

Ha ha, yes that would be an odd choice. My reasoning is far more normal and boring. I actually just named my team after myself, as I have a relatively unusual name.

If you have a favourite tune from 2015, please provide a link to vimeo/utube/soundcloud for us to listen, but an older classic/Slipknot tune would be fine too.

It wouldn't be much fun to give you something from 2015, and it's definitely not Slipknot. Try this, (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jjl-guOn4uA)

As a manager without supporter, what do you make of the furore about the price hikes?

I was a Supporter for about 3 years. I can't remember exactly when it was now, but I didn't renew it after a price rise. I love the game, but I just didn't think that the Supporter features were worth the extra money. I'm all for chipping in a fair and sensible amount of cash to keep the game going, but it seemed to have gone beyond that. And this was 2 or 3 price raises before the current price level! I do think that the current prices are absolutely insane.

Please provide a link to your favourite work of art?

I like old paintings which are dark and atmospheric. Here is a link to a good example, (http://www.philipphauer.de/galerie/caspar-david-friedrich/werke-gr/mann-und-frau-den-mond-betrachtend.jpg)

Please tell us your opinion about the proposed changes to the match engine, and player contribution revisions?

I'll be honest, I have not really paid enough attention to provide you with a sensible answer to this one. I am aware they are changing, but it isn't going to make me change any of my long term plans, so I haven't bothered taking all that much notice yet. Fortunately I have no plans to run for NT manager. :)

Please tell us how/where you met your other half (or last conquest), and how he/she feels about your hattrick addiction?

I met my other half in a night club way back in 1999. She is a teacher now, so Hattrick is a useful time filler for when she is ignoring me whilst marking books or preparing lessons.

For anyone looking to get away to Cumbria, have you any recommendations for a decent place to get a pint and a bite to eat?

I don't actually live in Cumbria any more. I moved to Leicestershire in 2004, so my knowledge of pubs and restaurants in Cumbria is a bit out of date. I went to Turpins in Twycross, Leicestershire the other week. They had good food and beer. :) (http://turpins.co.uk/content/panels/banner-2-3.jpg?cb=15-09-2014-15-05-00)

What was your first car (or bike) and what happened to it?

My first car was a white 1989 Vauxhall Astra 1.6. I sold it to a friend who was in the Army and got stationed in Germany. He took it with him and never brought it back.
