FMS 2 - 1 Y PFC

Weather conditions were pretty good for football, and the lads were happy to see 31 people gathered to see their game at FMS Anfield. Starters: Rizevski - Ganiu, Mandilov, Daskalov, Boshevski - Mazari, Mishkov, Bebekovski, Salkın - Lilaj, Obednikovski.

The picks for today were: Zonnenberg - Mauve, Overste, Sassen, Mok - Wamelink, Kleibeuker, Berendsen, Bruijn, Van Lith - Duijsenberg.

FMS Skopje started the game in a 4-4-2 formation, whereas Youth Pallas Fc lined up in a 4-5-1 formation. It was an obvious ambition of FMS to use their ability at attacking on the flanks. Y PFC displayed their ability to play creatively. Pieter Mok produced a fine header after that corner kick with 4 minutes on the clock. The ball was blocked by the goalie but was quickly snapped up by Karel Duijsenberg who scored the 0 - 1 goal for Y PFC. A counterattack by Y PFC after 9 minutes could have resulted in a goal, but Alwin Overste, coming in on the left, lost his wits and couldn't get the shot off. After 13 minutes of play, Karel Duijsenberg baffled his team mates with a shot from right in the corner, it curved along the dead ball line and nearly slipped past the goalkeeper. The keeper reacted just in time though, and no goal was scored. FMS showed tactical thinking beyond their years after 21 minutes, as they caught their opponents with a counterattack down the right wing. The ball finally bounced off Veiz Mazari into the net making the score 1 - 1. Y PFC appeared uncertain how to play and their organisation was only weak. FMS had a great opportunity after 34 minutes as Antonio Ganiu found a gap in the defence, and the goalkeeper standing off his line. His lob sailed slowly towards the top corner, but it drifted onto the crossbar and bounced out of play. The referee confirmed the score as 1 - 1 when he signalled for the halftime break. The game was a stalemate so far, with possession split evenly between the teams.

After handing out some oranges, Y PFC's coach repeated his tactical instructions to the team. The boys finally got it, and were back at solid organisation when the whistle blew again. Antonio Rizevski was beaming with pride after 50 minutes, as he dived full length and stopped a shot by the visitors' Tijs Van Lith. Y PFC did not seem very confident about what to do on the pitch, the organisation level having broken down to weak. Given a free kick in a difficult position after 79 minutes, Y PFC tried a variation that they had practised in training. The kick was sent into the area just in front of the keeper. However, the defence were on their toes and allowed no space for a finish. Making his way up the middle after 81 minutes, Antonio Ganiu nearly flicked the ball past the goalkeeper Chris Zonnenberg, but misfired. He'd forgotten his boots this morning and had to borrow a pair, maybe that's why? Gaz Lilaj was congratulated by the FMS lads, having secured the lead with his 2 - 1 goal. He weaved through the guest’s central defenders, then clipped the ball in low to the keeper's right. The match ends 2 - 1. FMS didn't seem to want to give the ball away in this half, which resulted in 53 percent of the possession.

The FMS players gave Kiro Obednikovski a group hug after the game, claiming he'd been "really great". Mladen Mandilov showed he still has a lot to learn. Rainier Berendsen performed especially well for Y PFC - this one could be a candidate for the senior squad one day. The coach took Arnie Sassen aside after the game, telling him it is okay to have a bad day on the pitch as long as you keep trying.
